About Me
I used to blog using the name Kashei, which is a play on my first and last name, but then I came out of the closet. My name is Karol. Yes, with a 'K'. I have a brother named after Ronald Reagan.
I am a PR consultant for right-leaning politicians and causes. My disclaimer statement appears in my sidebar. I maintain a calendar of events for Republicans, conservatives, libertarians, or any other sort of non-liberal person in New York, at RightEvents.com. I also co-write a poker blog called I Had Outs. I have a Wikipedia entry here.
I was born in Russia and became a US citizen when I was still a kid. Here's a picture of that glorious day. I grew up in Brooklyn
I went to high school at Adelphi Academy in Brooklyn and loved it. I went to college at Northeastern University in Boston. I lived in Scotland twice for a total of about three years. The first time, I spent four months at the Findhorn Foundation, a commune in Forres. Yes, really. The second time around, I lived mostly in Aberdeen. Cafe Drummond on Belmont Street was my favorite bar. I would sit in a booth all day and write in my notebook. I no longer keep a notebook. I loved and still love Scotland as my second home. I live in Manhattan now.
I have a boyfriend who is referred to on the blog as I.C.
I am addicted to My Space. Add me.
I went to NYU Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and got my Master's Degree in Political Campaign Management. While I was on the phone learning I got accepted, the lights went out all over much of the East Coast. I was the only Republican in my program. That was interesting.
This is what I look like (but my brother says I'm making a funny face in this picture):
4/11/06:
Yes, my eyes change color depending on the light and what I'm wearing. Yes, it's weird.
This is what I'd look like if I was on South Park.
My five favorite things in 2003 were the internet, political meetups, school, travel, and politics. For 2004 we can replace 'school' with 'Texas Hold 'Em'. 2005 and 2006 are shaping up to be more of the same and there's nothing wrong with that.
I love Vincent Gallo. He's the only celebrity I'm into.
I'm not over 9/11 (scroll down to September 6th).
I like mostly indie rock music but have been listening to a lot of rap in the past few years. Especially yummy 50 Cent.
I love traveling. My favorite places I have been are Scotland, Turkey, Argentina, Uruguay and a tiny island in the Caribbean called Îles des Saintes. I've been to over 50 countries. Here's a cool map of that. On the other hand, I've be nowhere in America and I'm trying to change that.
I've done a bunch of memes lately so you can find out all sorts of stuff about me through those. Learn my nicknames, seven things I want to do before I die, my worst jobs, 5 things I like that no one else does and where I was 10 years ago.
About that Dawn Summers girl: yes, she's a wacko liberal and has some really strange ideas about the world but I've known her since I was a freshman in high school and she is really funny and writes excellent posts when she stays away from politics. Sometimes, she even gets politics right. Other times, she's actually nice. Also, if I didn't mention her in my 'About Me' page I would be subjected to stuff like this more often.
I am 30.

Posted by: Dawn Summers at April 5, 2004 05:34 PMHi,
I absolutely love your blog and would like to suggest you mention a new funny political test, that Michael J. Totten said was, “The funniest political quiz I’ve seen yet,” in Spot On’s blog log at the URL below:
http://www.alarmingnews.com/
The new test's Title is:
A Satirical Political Beliefs Assessment Test
The new test's Description is:
A humorous test to discover if you're a conservative, liberal, libertarian, or a communist.
The new test's URL is:
http://www.geocities.com/donaldjhagen/humoroustest.html
Below are pasted copies of the links two other web sites that mentioned my test and what said about my test:

From Michael J. Totten’s blog log ( http://michaeltotten.com/ )
Quiz Time
This is great. The funniest political quiz I’ve seen yet. (I suppose that’s like saying “the best horror movie from Greenland,” but whatever.)
Are you a liberal, a conservative, a libertarian, or a communist? The communist answers are the best.
Some teasers:
What should people not be allowed to do in public?
CONS: Offend the sensibilities of others.
LIBL: Offend the sensitivities of others.
LBRT: Offend the sensibilities of yourself.
COMM: Offend the sensitivities of the authorities.
What's the best way to stop people from illegally crossing our borders?
CONS: Seal the borders so no one can get in.
LIBL: Do nothing to beef up security at the borders, and offer illegal aliens a wide array of free services.
LBRT: Allow unrestricted passage across the borders.
COMM: Seal the borders so no one can get out.
==================================================================================================
From American RealPolitik’s blog log ( http://realpolitik.us/archives/000062.php )
Take the Satirical Political Beliefs Assessment Test : A Humorous Test to Discover If You're an Archconservative, Leftwing Wacko, Antigovernment Libertine, or a Commie Sympathizer
Robin Hood’s practice of stealing from the rich to give to the poor was…
CONS: a crime.
LIBL: a brave, generous and heroic deed.
LBRT: a foolish, misguided attempt at social engineering.
COMM: an inspiration to us all
There are tons of questions here. I (as always) end up in between the Conservative and Libertarian lines.

Anyway, if you do get a kick out of my test and mention my test in your blog log, please email me and I will also make a reciprocal link back to Spot On’s blog from my test by linking to the URL below:

Like your blog! But add Christopher Hitchens to your links as well. He's God as far as I'm concerned. Also in your Wish List I noticed Oriana Fallaci's The Pride and The Rage. Good, if angry, book. She definitely has 'cajones'!

Posted by: Drew at July 6, 2004 06:00 PMIncidentally, 9/11 didn't cause a rift between England and the US, your candidate's handling of it did.
Posted by: Rick Blaine at October 28, 2004 01:57 PMUh, incidentally Rick, as usual you have no idea what you're talking about. First of all, I was talking about Scotland, not England. And, second of all, I was there in December 2001 when Iraq wasn't yet on the horizon and they were already deeply unhappy with the US (going into Afghanistan, etc). So, if it makes you feel better that people don't hate you, they just hate Bush, you go on and believe that. But it gives away just how ignorant you are.
Posted by: Karol at October 28, 2004 02:52 PMJust wanted to say Hi. I have been following your blog for sometime and find it quite interesting. I am a dutch liberal, which you could compare to some conservative ideals. Well I hope you had a nice holiday.

Karol,
I just stumbled on to your blog when I was looking for commentary on the Markowitz/Cracker Barrel flap. While I wouldn't characterize myself as a conservative, I think your blog pretty much kicks ass. I think we might share some of the same values, just different assumptions about how the world works. I suppose most people would categorize me as a Libertarian Leaning Liberal or a Liberal Leaning Libertarian. I'm not a Bush fan, but I certainly understand why many folks are.
Anyhoo, even though I'm an old (40) Hillbilly that moved to the big city, I really find your blogging to be a hell of a lot more interesting than most of the political blogs, conservative or liberal.
I think the rap blogging alone is worth the visit.
Keep up the good work!
PS: I notice you have some conservative blogs from my home state of Tennessee on your blogroll. I think you might enjoy
Say Uncle. He does a very good job keeping up with 2nd Amendment issues and property rights. Even moonbats like me feel welcome.

I think the public should know about a lawsuit which is pending in the Second Circuit and the Supreme Court of the U.S. In 1996, the New York City Dept. of Ed. prosecuted fraudulent disciplinary charges against me in connection with a disagreement about teaching. The matter has been in litigation for this long because the New York City Law Dept and the New York Attorney General have been abusing the judicial process by misleading judges.

It'll be fun getting to know you through your blog.
Hi Karol,
I was quite impressed by the countries you've been to. Got me to thinking - USA, Canada, Mexico, Philippines, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Germany, France, and Holland. I don't think I can count Midway or Okinawa as countries. Okinawa had already reverted back to Japan before I got there.
Only ten, and I'm WAY older than you. Heck, my son is only slightly younger than you. We're lucky to have people like you come here. I see one of your previous commenters "." or whatever must have been "educated" in one of our less than adequate schools. He or she probably doesn't like the competition.
Posted by: MarkD at August 14, 2006 11:24 PMI noticed your posting at Michellemalkin.com and your one comment; "I'm looking forward to the hate mail". Why? Are some on the Right and the Left so addicted to polarization that this is what social and political commentary and awareness has been reduced to? Why would anybody send you hate mail? What arrogance do you possess that would make you believe you are worth the hate from a total stranger. This is oddly funny at best.
Posted by: Syntax at August 15, 2006 02:54 AMI checked out your blog 'cause I thought it was cool you were both a conservative political blogger and a poker player. I'm an amateur blogger and professional poker dealer so at least we had that much in common. You should get out and see the rest of America, since you've been so many other places. BTW, that syntax guy, who thinks you are arrogant for expecting hate mail, obviously doesn't get out much. Talk publically about the greatness of Ronald Reagan just one time and feel the love from anybody even halfway left!
Posted by: Markymark at August 15, 2006 10:55 AMKarol,
I just read "9/11 was all too real" on michellemalkin.com. Great post. I agree it's too soon to trivialize 9/11.
A colleague of mine wrote a long essay, surely a kind of catharsis, about that day. He came up the subway escalator at the WTC only to be ushered directly to the street. He described minute-by-minute what it took to get out of Manhattan... Wish I'd kept a copy of it.
Another colleague ran to the top of his Battery Park office building after the first plane hit, just in time to see the second plane hit. He didn't return to work for several weeks.
When will it be OK to trivialize 9/11? A wise person would seek the answer to that question from a person who lived through Pearl Harbor...
Cheers,

Dear Karol,
I read some very troubling statements by you in Metro last month re: the state of NY where you said "things are going so well".
You may be the only human on earth---besides political advertising shills---who claim things are going well in NYC.
Pick ANY topic you can and I'll prove it.
EX:
Rudy doubled our sanitation costs.
Do you think 100% inflation is good?
I didn't think so.
EX:
Our pension costs are insane and Rudy dramatically increased them. (Fuckin' tax and spend Republicans!) And they're skyrocketing by the minute like our debt service. (Thanks GOP!)
YOU are spending tens of millions paying 40 year old retired cops to watch Oprah on Long Island.
Is that really a great use of your taxes? (The highest on earth! Thanks GOP!)
PICK ANY TOPIC.
CRime?
It's exploded since Rudy. (But then, I bet you think politicians and govt don't lie!)
EX: there are over 200 MILLION graffiti vandal tags in NYC. SOmehow, 200 million crimes were created while the world's largest police force FAILED to dent it! Ask Rudy how that worked out.
(Rudy is the WHite David Dinkins!)
[If you doubt me, I can go on in superdetail forever: 212-966-1386]
NYC is the most expensive ghetto in mankind's history. You even pay taxes ON YOUR TAXES! You even pay ALL of Madison Square Garden's electricity bill! ANd you think that's good???
LASTLY,
you claim you aren't a liberal but I'll bet money that's false.
EX:
if you are not liberal, then you think women shouldn't be able to vote.
GOTCHA!
Voting is a liberal legacy, as is ALL social progression, from private property to democracy to premarital sex (betcha tried it, you dirty liberal!)to free speech and on and on.
ALL humans are 80% socialist and 20% libertarian in their hearts and if you doubt me ask me to prove it.
EX:
Reagan was a COMMIE!
EX: he loved the US Military... the largest communist entity in the western hemisphere! (Oh no? Oh, I didn't realize it is NOT a govt-run monopoly!)
Ditto the police and fire depts in america: ALL are govt-run MONOPOLIES that bar competition!
Gotcha!
I don't know much about you. Perhaps you're a reasonable person who was just brainwashed by insane GOP lies (do you really believe in a virgin birth???) but please THINK more and accept GroupThink less.
The GOP is FAKE in every way. (EX: they created the largest financial debt EVER! How's that for "fiscal conservatism"?)
You probably still think Strom Thurmond didn't knock up that negro!
upset when people don't THINK,
Christopher X. Brodeur
212-966-1386
Hahahaa. Oh man, a Chris Brodeur comment, haven't seen one of these in awhile. When did they let you out?

Posted by: Casca at April 22, 2007 02:53 PMPOSTED ORIGINALLY IN A POLITICO BLOG (BURIED IS MORE LIKE IT).
I am a candidate for president. I decided when I was four years old that it was OK for me to doodle in my Abraham Lincoln book because some day I was going to be the president. I have an Exit Strategy for Leaving Iraq With Honor. The other candidates don't have any plan or strategy for getting out of Iraq without a debacle.
I also created a Vehicle for World Peace, that a prophetic Television Scripture, written in design to perform on 'whirled' wide television, like old blind Homer, from dusk until dawn, for all the world's peoples to see, listen to and be a part of all at once. The other candidates are not bringing any world-class solutions to the table.
I'm in a class by myself.
I will seek the nomination of both parties so we present a united face to the world. Thomas L. Friedman is my choice for Secretary of State. I won't have to tell him what to do, as we clearly want the world's governments to 'officially' tune in on my world peace program. Friedman, I expect, will start on that, as a citizen, long before I take office, after one nationwide speech as a candidate.
World Peace is going to begin with a peaceful night. All the world's peoples will be doing the same thing at the same time - watching TV, a respite from the continuous carbon dioxide global warming. Worldwide, 99%, nothing running. Just TV.
The other candidates are not the authors of prophetic works, where world events are / were explicitly described in advance. In 1988 I was on the ballot in New Hampshire. I made a half hour speech on New Hampshire Public television.
They listed Motor Week for my time slot in the weekly TV and daily listings, so unless you were flipping your remote, or wanting to learn about oil changes, you missed it.
Secretary of State Gardner and I estimated 240 - 250 voters saw my speech. (80 demos, 80 reps, 80 independents.) On Election Day, 42 people voted for me. In New Hampshire that was not too shabby at all.
I bought my first VCR, yesterday, to record the 1st Democrat debate. After the 1-800 tech support kid walked me through the set up, to test the machine, I threw in an old, unmarked VHS tape that had been gathering dust, from house to house, on a shelf for years.
It was me getting interviewed as a candidate for president, on local TV in Buffalo, NY; that followed by the 30 minute speech in New Hampshire, 1988. In the New Hampshire speech I displayed some pages from the Television Scripture, stated I sought the nomination of both parties, referred to my Television Scripture as a "Vehicle for World Peace," and read out loud the passage that was / is an exact, explicit description of the global warming and the arctic ice caps melting. Cool! Or should I say hot.
I am going to see about transferring the VHS tape onto DVD and then I am going to make it into a video pod cast. Everyone - all the blabberific talking heads want candidate Mike Gravel "off" the demo debate team. But he was the best. He made sense. I am going to invite him to join my kitchen cabinet. I invite you to visit www.alphabet-learning.com where you will see my software for teaching kids the alphabet and numbers, along with "New World Hors D'oeuvres," my recently published book, with the Exit Strategy out of Iraq, available for reading on the site.
The last time I sent articles for publication to newspapers, fb-eye knocked on my back door, waving the email. Hopefully this posting is under their radar. My building manager admitted to me they had come to him to see about they getting an advance copy of New World Hors D'oeuvres. In conclusion: It has been recently reported that fb-eye conducted 120,000 (illegal) 'name checks' over a two year period.
The issue is: where did they get the names to check? Upon election I intend on publishing their list, excluding the half dozen people who probably needed a look at. Was the Virginia Tech psychopath on their list? This is Michael Stephen Levinson (Google me for the campaign 2000 repository).
Scientists discover REAL cause of Global Warming is variations in sun not CO2!!!
Hi,
I am a long time admirer of your blog! Please, read the email I’m sending to every Conservative Radio Station I can think of, about a British Documentary titled, “The Great Global Warming Swindle,” that you can still see by clicking your mouse on the web link I have provided below, but as you can read from my copied letter below--I don’t know how much longer that web link will still be available, so please try to see the documentary now. Also, mention the documentary on your blog and also provide a permanent web link to the documentary on your blog so others can also view the documentary from your web page after your daily entry rolls of your blog entries, and contact every conservative radio station, organization, blog, newspaper, and politician you can think of, so this Global Warming Fear Mongering can be put to rest once and for all.

Dear Sir:
This is the third email I’ve sent you on this subject. About 4 weeks ago you I sent you an email about a British Documentary done be scientists titled, “The Great Global Warming Swindle" saying scientists have discovered what causes Global Warming is variations in the sun--not CO2!!! The documentary also shows scenes from Al Gore’s, documentary, “An Inconvenient Truth, and points out the flawed logic in his interpretation of the climate data. Anyway, the new web address I gave you to see the documentary no longer works, but do not panic, I’ve found a new link that still works. But, I think I have deduced why the web link to the documentary no longer works. Soon it will be available as a DVD, and you can buy a copy for a $20.00. So, I think that’s why the producers removed the web link. However, I found a French Web Link that still works!!! Fortunately--the Audio is still in English---and it has French Subtitles!!! I will also provide the contact info web page of the producers of the documentary so you can contact them for how to get your own DVD, incase the French Web Link also stops working, and also so you can contact them, on who to interview, incase you decide to share this info with your listeners.
To see the video, click your mouse on the web link below. On my computer sometimes the video player pauses. Just be patient. It will start again shortly. Also, the title of the documentary is displayed 4 times before the end of the documentary, its not over till you see the credits!!!
