She asked for it.

Dawn Summers thinks she is sooooooo clever in her post about how I wanted to see pictures of the WTC jumpers yet haven't written about the same want to see dead soldiers being returned from Iraq. She, of course, puts it in the context of Bush inviting these attacks on our soldiers. Though a huge liberal, she is an ok person that Dawn, and normally isn't an America-hater like most of her compatriots, but she does sound awfully gleeful that the deaths are occuring and that Bush looks bad because of it. Personally, I can't imagine wishing anything bad for the US no matter who was in power. Imagine Republicans wishing for a bad economy under Clinton or that the Iranians would kill the American hostages under Carter. Democrats are so concerned with constantly defending their patriotism, including the oft-repeated lie that President Bush has made any indication that disagreeing with him is unpatriotic, that they often forget to have any. To me, patriotism isn't about agreeing or disagreeing with whomever is in office, it's about wanting what is best for our country, regardless of who receives acclaim for it.

To her site's credit, she mostly got comments from people who criticized her for being a touch too happy about the soldier deaths (with certain 'I hate Bush so much everything wrong with the world is his fault' exceptions). She then found a cousin (I've been friends with her for 12 years, she has a million cousins and despises all of them) who is serving in Iraq and that she didn't want soldiers to die. This reminded me of people who say 'I'm not racist, I have black friends'. She wouldn't stand for it in that case and she shouldn't be pushing it in this one.

Have you considered professional help? Your level of expressed anger and sarcasm has been frequently linked to serious pathologies of many kinds - being a conservative merely one of the less serious.

Reality and your imagined world are quite different. Wake up.

SOB, wow. I was going to comment and say that I hope K & Dawn don't keep up bashing each other, it's not ladylike and the blogosphere does just fine without it.

But that's nothing compared to the hatred that is rushing to judgment and scowling at others lives, and the xenophobia that is passing off ideological differences as hallucinations or psychologial problems.

If that's where the debate is going, all the self-respecting should get out while we still can. I firmly believe that personal insults are argumentative cop-outs for people too unwilling and too closed-minded to otherwise engage.

If that were a comment on my site, I'd delete it -- not just because it's unnecessary and untrue, but because that just doesn't belong in the debate. SOB, any voice that speaks with respect is contributing to politics, and that excludes the forked tongue. Here's hoping our next communication is more civil.

Left-wing political types have become so fanatical they have turned their politics into a religion.

They have become zealots just as some Moslems have. Neither can be budged from their beliefs. Both see Bush and most Americans as a threat to their religion and act accordingly.

Kashei

I agree with Clarefied. I think you do want to take out France.

AHHHHHHHH Paris with starbucks, finally an affordable coffee on the Champs-Elysees. It's time for the USA to live up to it's Imperial Potential.

These seem like normal responses from two friends, one who supported the war and the other did not. No profesional help needed here.

Anti-war person response to US soldiers and Civilians dying - Damn, this sucks. This is why I didn't want the war in the first place.

Pro-war person. This is what happens in war, we shouldn't bring down morale and focus on it.

I don't see either side happy that US soldiers are dying. You shouldn't either.

Did SOB even make sense in that comment? It's late and I have worked like a maniac all week but he did have no points, right? See knee. See knee jerk.

Candace, don't worry about Dawn+I bashing each other, I couldn't get rid of her if I tried. Not that I, uh, have. :-)

And Dan, I have nothing against France. It's a beautiful country.

Posted by: Kashei at November 6, 2003 02:28 AM

I will let Kash and Dawn carry on bashing each other (I saw this start up on Clarified - liked the original post)and keep my tuppence worth out.

Jake, c'mon - do you ever read some of the contributions here, or link to other blogspots ? Does much of the Christian right strike you as reasonable ? Your point is good, but too narrow. There are zealots on all sides.

K,

I think you may have looked into her words too deeply. I think it was a more of a "told you so", than the happy feelings of soldiers getting killed that you perceived. But again, not one person thought invading and occupying a country until it becomes a Democracay was going to be an easy bloodless task. Especially with the Jihad mentality that is so prevalent in the Muslim world.

I have noticed some crazy Liberals running around your site lately though. Are these your D.C. freinds ?? I thought it was just the mayor that free-based down there....

Bobby, did you just call me a Christian Rightist? That would be news to me. And most right-leaning blogs tend to be libertarians.

Judah, Dawn Summers is an old friend of mine and she is a Lefty. She started blogging recently and got pretty popular pretty quickly. Now she's in this 'new blog showcase' (with the post about me) over at Truth Laid Bear and she's really attracting the weirdos and they are making their way over here too.

Posted by: Kashei at November 6, 2003 10:58 AM

Urg, I just checked and Dawn is #1 so far in the new blog showcase so expect the influx to continue.
