Anyone remember Dukakis on the tank?

Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts arrived on the 'The Tonight Show with Jay Leno stage via motorcycle wearing jeans, a denim shirt and a leather jacket during his appearance Nov. 11, 2003, at the NBC studios in Burbank, Calif.

At least he wore his helmet this time. Right? Please tell me he wore his helmet!

don't get me started on helmet laws. Personal responsibility...

Hey, the Dems know Clinton's Sax work on MTV changed elections forever. Make a president cool. That's the ticket!

Posted by: Scott @ SlantPoint at November 12, 2003 03:40 PM

Before he came on he was put through the shredder by that cigar smoking dog puppet who said such things as-- "Jay the poop I left in your dressing room has more heat than Kerry."

Posted by: Scott at November 12, 2003 03:52 PM

Actually, it was his sax work on the Arsenio Hall Show that put him over the top.

I don't know if there are any old, Blue Oyster Cult fans out there, but their wild, pyrotechnic stage show also included a band member riding a Harley out on stage during a cover of 'Born to Be Wild'.

What's next for Kerry? A thirty-foot statue of Godzilla with lasers shining out of his eyes?

lame. you can photo-op this guy with a bongo, a spliff and a copy of kerouac's 'on the road' and he still wouldn't be cool.

Posted by: scot at November 13, 2003 02:36 AM

Yes, nothing lamer than blatant publicity ploys involving dressing up in silly costumes and riding big engines, like oh, say, dressing up in a fighter pilot suit and landing on a ship. Boys and their toys, they all do it, but will Kerry put out a doll of himself playing dress up I wonder? At least his little adventure won't cost the taxpayers any money.

oooh... nice one steff!

Posted by: Dawn Summers at November 13, 2003 07:55 AM

You might be confusing moral boosting with a publicity stunt. It means a lot to the soldiers to see the chief come to their level.

I would love to like this guy Kerry, unfortunately the only thing I know about him is he dislikes Bush and he was a Vietnam vet. I really feel bad for the Democratic party.

Posted by: Judah Maccabee at November 13, 2003 10:37 AM

You leftists are so transparent is laughable. Like you ever give a fuck about taxpayers' money; especially when you're giving handouts and advances to illegal, trespassing aliens.

The president goes to some risk to inspire troops' morale and thank them and you professional sourpuss' can only cry about a few pennies it cost.

Cry me a fucking river un-American swine.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Ahh, Steff, but the point is that Bush didn't look stupid in the role of militarily capable leader.

What I meant to say was that I actually don't remember Dukakis, seeing as how I just learned about that whole spectacle two days ago (good timing, girl :)), but the comparison at first go seems just about right!

Posted by: candace at November 13, 2003 11:53 PM

So Bush LOOKS capable, which is of course far more important than actual active service in the military... ah, I see, forgive the confusion. So Kerry's time in Vietnam is incomparable to Bush's playacting and puppeteering in Iraq, risking everyone's hide but his own. I'm sure the families of the soldiers over there this holiday season can warm themselves by the fire with the inspiring image of Mr. President in his flight suit....

'risking everyone's hide but his own'

you cant be serious about this. is every president who has sent troops somewhere (umm, all of them?) guilty of this charge? or just bush?.

'I'm sure the families of the soldiers over there this holiday season can warm themselves...'

your concern for the military is as convincing as your concern for government spending. i'm amazed at the sudden love affair the left/anti-war/bush hating crowd seems to have developed for soldiers since the invasion of iraq. treated with elitist scorn and suburban derision for so long, their welfare now seems to be a focalpoint of those who want bush out of the white house. i wonder why that is.

"Bush's playacting and puppeteering in Iraq"

You are even a bigger idiot than I first thought. No, this isn't a play or production starring your heroes Sheen, Asner, et-al, this is a fucking war. It's a war for our security and future to protect even a slug like you.

I'm sure you screeched your tired chickenhawk (like the National Guard is not military) dreck while your idols Bill and Hitlery were sending troops to every miserable shithole on earth. Oh, but it was different - they were evolved.

Scot/RR - I wish you pair of tossers would wise up...

Posted by: David at November 14, 2003 10:42 AM

Scot and Radical,

Exactly what I was thinking.

To add: I would agre with you steff about the importance of Kerry's background, if he was handing out medals to troops or discussing the war. But he wasn't he was looking like a putz on the Jay Leno show.

Oh and on a side note this guy had Voted YES on authorizing use of military force against Iraq.(Oct 2002)
