And this is potentially the Democrat's nominee for president

From Charles Krauthhamer in an article titled 'Bush Derangement Syndrome':

Diane Rehm: ``Why do you think he (Bush) is suppressing that (Sept. 11) report?''

Howard Dean: ``I don't know. There are many theories about it. The most interesting theory that I've heard so far -- which is nothing more than a theory, it can't be proved -- is that he was warned ahead of time by the Saudis. Now who knows what the real situation is?''

Someone should ask Dean, "Have you stopped beating women yet?"

bastard! this is the crap some want for President?

Next on Art Bell... Howard Dean talks about 9/11 conspiracies and the Bush/Jew connection.

Is this an attempt to court the "Art Bell" male voting bloc?

Kashei:

Why do you think the report has not been released?

Dan

Posted by: Dan at December 5, 2003 02:23 PM

I don't know. Dan, do you really not think anything is wrong with what Dean is inferring?

Posted by: Kashei at December 5, 2003 02:43 PM

Howard Dean won't un-seal his gubernatorial files.

So, as he might put it:

The most interesting theory that I've heard so far -- which is nothing more than a theory, it can't be proved -- is that Howard Dean is a cannibalistic pedophile who had an anthrax lab in his basement. Now who knows what the real situation is?

Do you get K's point now?

Just because something is confidential doesn't mean you, much less a man aspiring to lead this country, have a license to make horrible accusations about it and then disguise your unsubstantiated claims as "interesting" gossip.

Joe, that's hilarious.

Posted by: Kashei at December 5, 2003 04:05 PM

Joe,

That's not a very good point. First, Dean is hardly making the stuff up on the spot. As I'm sure you are aware, many people have been speculating about the Bush/Saudi connection in connection with 9/11. Second, there is absolutely nothing to suggest that Dean has any connection to cannibalism, pedophelia, or anthrax. On the other hand, the Bush family has a close relationship with the Saudi Royal family, most of the 9/11 perpetrators were Saudis, many Saudis (including bin Laden's own family members) in the US in the days after 9/11 got special treatment and were allowed to leave the country. I'm not saying I believe that Bush was warned ahead of time by the Saudis -- in fact, I doubt it very much -- but your characterization of what Dean said is disingenuous.

Posted by: Rick at December 5, 2003 04:26 PM

Rick, just because "many people have been speculating" something sladerous doesn't make it all right to repeat the slander. And as to the guilt by second-degree association, do you know anybody who knows anybody who's done time? If so, by your logic that makes you a criminal, whether you know about the connection or not.

What Dean said was fucking McCarthyite. But I suppose that tactic is fine if it's hunting season on Republicans instead of Communists.

And finally, what compelling public interest might be protected by sealing the former Governor of Vermont's files? Does Vermont have secret agents infiltrating Canada, stealing the recipe for Molson's Beer in order to understand it's insidious effect on University of Vermont co-eds? I encourage you to speculate.

See what he said on Fox News Sunday when pressed about the comment?

WALLACE: Governor, there is this continuing question, even in your own party, about whether you're fit, whether you're up to being commander in chief. And I want to ask you about a radio interview that you did earlier this week. You were asked about the president suppressing information about what he knew pre-9/11, and here's what you said.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

DEAN: The most interesting theory that I have heard so far, which is nothing more than a theory, I can't think -- it can't be proved, is that he was warned ahead of time by the Saudis. Now who knows what the real situation is.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

WALLACE: The most interesting theory is that the president was warned ahead of time by the Saudis. Why would you say that, Go who believe that. We don't know what happened in 9/11. Tom Kean is trying to get some information from the president...

WALLACE: Do you believe that?

DEAN: ... which doesn't -- no, I don't believe that. I can't imagine the president of the United States doing that. But we don't know, and it'd be a nice thing to know.

WALLACE: I'm just curious why you would call that the most interesting theory.

DEAN: Because it's a pretty odd theory.

What we do believe is that there was a lot of chatter that somehow was missed by the CIA and the FBI about this, and that for some reason we were unable to decide and get clear indications of what the attacks what were going to be. Because the president...

WALLACE: I guess...

DEAN: Because the president won't give the information to the Kean commission we really don't know what the explanation is.

NOW, WHEN PRESSED, IT'S A "PRETTY ODD" THEORY, AND HE DOESN'T BELIEVE IT......
