Just a reminder

From Jonah Goldberg:

Gadhafi told Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi last fall, "I will do whatever the Americans want, because I saw what happened in Iraq, and I was afraid." That was before he saw Saddam's tonsils on CNN.

But why was that the explanation Gadhafi gave?

Shouldn't he have put on a bolder face and/or rationalized it as "time for Libya to rejoin the world community" and the like?

Maybe he's allowing himself to be used as a "model" reformed terrorist, so the Americans will cut him some breaks?

Well, it was said in a conversation with Silvio Berlusconi and when Berlusconi told the story, he didn't say who said it. It became fairly clear fairly quickly that it was Gadhafi. I don't think it was intended to make the news.
