'Washington DC, it's paradise to me'

I'm leaving for DC on Sunday for the better part of next month. If anybody, DC based or not, has suggestions on where to go and what to do while I'm there, drop me a comment.

P.S. The title is from a Magnetic Fields song.

Go to the Air Museum and see the new exhibit of the Enola Gay. Then say a prayer thanking God for the Enola Gay which saved millions of Japanese and American lives.

Yeah, meet up with me. :)

Aside from that, are you talking about bars, restaurants, museums, neighborhoods, shopping, what?

If you get up to Baltimore, you must have dinner at Sabatino's. The garlic bread recipe was pilfered from Heaven's kitchen by Lucifer; how it ended up at Sabatino's is one of those Baltimore Mysteries.

After dinner, walk with some friends to the National Aquarium and hang out with the stoners by the outdoor seal pool. (Last time I did that was a few years ago, and maybe the Baltimore police have caught on by now. Even though I don't smoke pot-or-anything-else, the vibe was truly otherworldly.)

DC has some magnificent monuments and wonderful museums, but if you prefer Real Life ("Now With More Quirks!") get thee to Baltimore.

Jake, Thanks, I'll definitely check it out. I've been there before but didn't have enough time to see as much as I would've liked.

Joe, let's definitely hang out! I love meeting people I read.

Mark, I'm actually considering spending a night or two in Baltimore. Thanks for the info. Is that where you live?

No, I went to college there and I have some friends who still live there. Currently I reside in Brooklyn (No! Sleep! 'till...)

Baltimore is funky; lots of neighborhoods that are really still neighborhoods, lots of local color. Home of E.A. Poe and H.L. Mencken. Birthplace of The Babe.

Remember the concert film, Stop Making Sense? While I was in school down there, it opened at the local art theater and was supposed to run for 3 days. It ran for 2 months. It's that kind of city.
