Why is my state so stupid?
Some New York counties are granting permission to bars, that were adversely effected financially by the no-smoking ban, to set up smoking areas. This is a perfect example of why small government is something to strive for, despite how difficult it can be. How will the government decide who gets the exemption? How will the bars prove that their sales have gone down because of the ban? Won't the bars not granted exemptions sue and have strong cases? Wasn't the purpose of the ban that smoking is supposedly deadly to bartenders and waitresses? How does a dip in sales excuse this?

You know what's interesting? I read in the paper the other day that two bars/clubs in Manhattan have bought vans. They keep the vans right outside their doors, with the heat on so their smokers have somewhere to go besides no degree weather. Sounds like a bright idea to me.
It's annoying though, to hear bar owners bitching. They didn't fight the ban when it was going into effect but now they want pity. Tsk tsk... my dollars, smokes and I have a blast entertaining in my home.
You're welcome to come on by.
I bet it wouldn't hurt to contribute to a few political campaigns if a bar owner really, really wanted an exemption.

When I was in these bars I was reminded how grateful I am for the smoking ban because when I am in bars in Manhattan I can breath smoke free air and don't have that stench all over me even after I leave.
