Has the world gone mad?

Ok, I'm only going to say this once for Andrew Sullivan, Instapundit and everyone else who has been quoting the poll numbers that show Bush being beaten by either Kerry or Edwards: these are national polls. We do not have national elections. I don't understand how all these much more brilliant than me writers can not mention that when citing the polls. We have state by state elections, therefore these polls are, well, meaningless. I keep waiting for someone to point this out but no one ever does. Good thing I have a blog, eh?

Hmmm, never thought of that.
Good point.

True. But the GOP was loving the national polls a few weeks ago when Bush was spanking Dean badly. While your point is correct, your timing is a little suspect.

Good thing we can see spin, eh ?

Personally, I'm glad someone is publicizing the flaws in these polls. The last thing we need is to have the Republican electorate all nervous and uncertain. That will just incite more anti-Kerry (or Edwards) ads and drive up voter turnout for President Bush.

If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times, Bush is a lock, so the RNC should ignore Kerry or Edwards, Republican voters should not kill themselves to vote and George W. should take his annual August vacation in Crawford.

Please.

But the popular vote winner usually wins the national election. Only if it is really close, that won't happen. In 2000, Gore's share of the popular vote was less than 1% higher than Bush's share. So if one candidate is a few percentage points ahead of the other in the popular vote, that would probably give that candidate an electoral vote victory.

If the jobs picture does not turn around quickly enough, the Iraq situation does not improve, and Bush continues to alienate his base, the Democrat (Kerry or Edwards) will win.

A very true point but somehow in that comment I smell fear! While no poll can secure victory for a cannidate they can certainly indicate trends.

No! No trends. What trends? I see no trends! Do you see trends?
Bush is a lock. Nice Republicans...good Republicans, now go back to sleep.

(C'mon people get on the trolley.)

Ugh. Who cares about the polls now? There's a lot of months between today and the election.

Posted by: Peter at February 20, 2004 06:51 PM

Personally, Bush deserves it. He is sitting on his ass doing nothing in the realm of aggressive politics. Maybe he will - he better. But recently he has not and the result does not lie. The Dems are walking all over him, grabbing all of the attention, having their own race, and Bush is laying low. Well, damn it, get off your ass, Mr. President.

But still, I know he nor Rove is stupid. There must be a tactic. There must be a plan.

Scott S

You want a plan. Here is Bush's plan and it is brilliant.
