I give the clear position a month

"I'm a gun owner. I've been a hunter since I was about 12 years old," Kerry said. "My position is very clear. I support the Second Amendment."

Oh as opposed to Bush's constancy ?

dailykos.com had a pretty good list of Bsuh's flip flops.

"Bush is against campaign finance reform; then he's for it.

Bush is against a Homeland Security Department; then he's for it.

Bush is against a 9/11 commission; then he's for it.

Bush is against an Iraq WMD investigation; then he's for it.

Bush is against nation building; then he's for it.

Bush is against deficits; then he's for them.

Bush is for free trade; then he's for tariffs on steel; then he's against them again.

Bush is against the U.S. taking a role in the Israeli Palestinian conflict; then he pushes for a "road map" and a Palestinian State.

Bush is for states right to decide on gay marriage, then he is for changing the constitution.

Bush first says he'll provide money for first responders (fire, police, emergency), then he doesn't.

Bush first says that 'help is on the way' to the military ... then he cuts benefits

Bush-"The most important thing is for us to find Osama bin Laden. Bush-"I don't know where he is. I have no idea and I really don't care."

Bush claims to be in favor of the environment and then secretly starts drilling on Padre Island.

Bush talks about helping education and increases mandates while cutting funding.

Bush first says the U.S. won't negotiate with North Korea. Now he will

Bush goes to Bob Jones University. Then say's he shouldn't have.

Bush said he would demand a U.N. Security Council vote on whether to sanction military action against Iraq. Later Bush announced he would not call for a vote

Bush said the "mission accomplished" banner was put up by the sailors. Bush later admits it was his advance team.

Bush was for fingerprinting and photographing Mexicans who enter the US. Bush after meeting with Pres. Fox, he's against it."

I'd add my own like NEA.

Vote for Kerry or Bush. The only thing they will change are their principles.

The Osama one strikes me as bad. If Al-Queda attacks again, Kerry can say that the American people supported Bush and his efforts to fight a war on terror. That war on terror became a war in Iraq. With no WMDs, no imminent threat, no link to 9/11.....

Kerry can argue that Bush's war on Iraq diverted American troops, focus and recources from the war on terror and-guess what-two and a half years later Al Queda is still kicking.

Bush and his people better have a response.

A lot of these examples had causes that made Bush change. The examples of nation building and Israel were obviously altered by 9/11. The example of the gay marriage amendment also was changed with activist judges and lawbreaking politicians. It's true that politicians often change their minds on positions, especially from the time they run for office to the time they take office. The difference with Kerry is that he is STILL trying to have it both ways on every issue. He voted for the war in Iraq but now claims to have been misled. He voted for the Patriot Act but now uses it to connect to the far left by breathing one word: Ashcroft. He voted for the No Child Left Behind act but now is running against it. He voted against funding the war that he had voted for. These are much worse examples that Bush deciding Osama isn't all that important after all.

"These are much worse examples that Bush deciding Osama isn't all that important after all."

No.

The attack on America matters a hell of a lot more then the Patriot Act, the war in Iraq and other matters. Your partisan zealotry is leading you to make comments that I do not think you mean. If Osama could mastermind 9/11 then he could mastermind another type attack and he would have to be eliminated at all costs. Just as we rubbed out Yamamoto, the mastermind of Pearl Harbor, at all costs.

I don't think Osama was the mastermind behind 9/11. I think he is more of a figurehead. I'm going to cheer and whoop if and when we ever find him (dead or alive) but I think he is not important to the overall war on terror.

Well clearly we disagree.

They caught the 9-11 mastermind, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, who was arrested in Pakistan last March. The other, Munir al-Mutasaddiq, has been aquitted by a German Court in a Kerry-preferred law enforcement procedure.

Damn, VB, that list made me tired, but be encouraged: major events and incoming new information often force changes of mind and policy. Intelligent people do that, and undrestand that.

Hunter? ... or gold digger?

Some Prime Minister in the 50s (Macmillian I think) once said something about politics being driven by events.

Castigating politicians for inconsistency is like berating racing drivers for speeding.

So it's okay to flip-flop on issues as long as there's a "cause?" For instance, if I'm against the death penalty and my grandmother gets murdered then it's okay for me to then support the death penalty. And still say I'm against the death penalty? Who makes these rules anyhow?

Politicians say anything to get themselves elected. We all know that. But the biggest mistake Bush can make is to take issue with characteristics in Kerry that he, too, possesses. Consistency is one of Dubya's biggest weaknesses. He best lay off that subject.

The question of principles vs. reality is a fascinating one. My problem is Bush has abandoned some of the core principles of American conservatism; he has embraced fiscal irresponsibility, BIG government and a Wilsonian policy abroad. As I stated before, I am very torn as to vote for him in 2004. If my state was not up for grabs, I would not. As my homestate is, I sit on the fence.

To quote the political motto of my favorite American statesman and political philisopher:

"Times change and men often change with them, but principles never!"

The Commandments of the EE:

(5) Take care that thou useth the proper method when thou takest the
measures of high-voltage circuits too, that thou dost not incinerate
both thee and thy test meter, for verily, though thou has no company
property number and can be easily surveyed, the test meter has
one and, as a consequence, bringeth much woe unto a purchasing agent.
(6) Take care that thou tamperest not with interlocks and safety devices,
for this incurreth the wrath of the chief electrician and bring
the fury of the engineers on his head.
(7) Work thou not on energized equipment for if thou doest so, thy
friends will surely be buying beers for thy widow and consoling
her in certain ways not generally acceptable to thee.
(8) Verily, verily I say unto thee, never service equipment alone,
for electrical cooking is a slow process and thou might sizzle in
thy own fat upon a hot circuit for hours on end before thy maker
sees fit to end thy misery and drag thee into his fold.
