Some more on Spain
Yesterday, in class, my teacher asked what we thought of the Spanish elections. It's a small class, only 3 people were in attendance yesterday, and due to Spring Break and one class cancellation, we hadn't met since before the Spanish attacks. One girl said that she had heard that the Socialists were polling ahead before the attacks and I said what you all think I said (tragedy, capitulation, attacks here in Oct/Nov etc.). The teacher said that a lot of the blame for the elections is being placed on the fact that Aznar's government seemed to be hiding information that would point to the attackers being Al Qaeda. While it may be true, I can't help but think back to 9/12/01 or even 9/15/01. I was having planes flying into buildings nightmares. There were photos of 'missing' people everywhere. Everyone was glued to the tv yet there was no new news at all. In short, the country was in shock and I can't imagine our leadership, or Spain's, feeling any different. I've heard from a few people lately the question 'what did Rudy Giuliani really do on 9/11 that was so special?' The answer: while you were hiding under your bed, he was out there being a source of comfort for the city and the country. My point is that it's ridiculous to blame anyone for being discombobulated after suffering a terrorist attack. Greatest Jeneration writes 'With hundreds of dead, more than a thousand wounded and the threat of another imminent terrorist attack, Mr. Aznar did not see, know and understand everything within 24 hours. Should a head of government be blamed for not being God? Should he be imagined plotting a Machiavellian scheme to cheat his people without cheating himself, as some kind of extra-lucid devil pulling the strings of a conspiracy as huge as it would be absurd? Stop this delirium.'
The other thing I've been thinking about is that the UN passed a resolution condemning the Basque separatists, on the day of the attacks. Why is there no criticism of the UN jumping to conclusions?

Yeah, but the UN was misled by Aznar. And remember, whenever one of the good guys does something that would get a conservative crucified, it is because they were cruelly misled by a deviously evil right-wing nutjob, and not because they are incompetent bozos unworthy of positions of public trust.
Call it the Kerry Rule.

Posted by: Karol at March 23, 2004 04:44 PMHello, Karol. This may be the first time that I've been to your site. I followed a link here from your comment at the latest entry at the "Ace of Spades" blog.
I seem to recall a site with a title something like "Alarming News," but it was different than this. I am not sure what that site was...
I am a strong conservative and a College Republican, but I have been blogging from a traditionalist conservative perspective... I have been opposing some of the policies of the Bush administration, such as the Iraq war, and have been writing about other conservatives who have as well.
I do not know who I will be supporting in the November presidential elections... However, good luck with your activities. You have a good weblog.
It must be hard being a Republican in NYC (I was born in Manhattan, but have lived here in central Illinois for most of my lift). Keep up the good work in all that you are doing.
Posted by: Aakash at March 23, 2004 06:53 PMRichard Clarke apparently doesn't exist here.
Considering that he's credibly alleging that your boy colossally fucked up and endangered this country, I find that omission curious.
Nothing to say? Hm.

amazing
Posted by: michael parker at March 24, 2004 09:07 AMAakash, there are actually two other conservatives who read my site (or, two that comment anyway) that are probably not voting for Bush in Nov. As Michael Jackson sang 'you are not alone'.
Ethan, what part of 'I write about what is interesting to me' don't you understand? Where is your post on Kerry's anti-Vietnam meeting in which killing senators was discussed?
Karol to quote Andre Gide, do not misunderstand me too quickly. If my state is in play, I will probably hold my nose and vote for Bush. If it is not, I will cheerfully vote for Moore, Peroutka or whoever ends up on the Constiution Party line. Right now, the state looks to be close so I will unhapilly vote for Bush as the lesser of two evils.
Posted by: Von Bek at March 24, 2004 12:28 PMI told ya Bush was evil!!! Dude, what does Kerry attending a meeting God knows how many decades ago have to do with an administration insider saying that 2 years ago the current administration did the exact opposite of what it is presently claiming its greatest strength is?
Kerry decades ago should be compared to Bush decades ago... oh, right Bush was just a crazy, mixed up kid then.
Posted by: Dawn Summers at March 24, 2004 12:52 PMThere is one story concerning W.'s younger days that makes me respect W. W. was very drunk and he drives home and crashes his car into a garbage can, waking George H W Bush up. Poppy is pissed and W. challenges him to a fist fight. Poppy sneers and walks inside.
If this story is true, it would increase my respect for W. That is very brave spiritually, to conquer your demons and prepare to take on your old man mano y mano. Yes, that takes great cajones. I do not think I could do it. To be so angry as to the disaproval of the insults of your father to challenge him to a fight, yes that takes a great deal of courage, and it shows a concern for one's personal honor.
I hope W. beat up his father and while he did so taunted Poppy that he had a better looking wife and was more of a real American man instead of being some prep school kid from New England. That would be enough of a mixture of Faulkner and Hemmingway to make W. an American icon. And I hope if W. wins a second term, he calls up his old man and taunts him for that too. "Ha ha old man. I have two terms as opposed to your one. I'm gonna hang with Grover Cleveland and James Monroe while you are linked with Jerry Ford, Benjamin Harrison and Matty Van Buren. And my wife is still better looking then yours."
Posted by: Von Bek at March 24, 2004 01:33 PMMy point crackie Dawn was that Ethan keeps bugging me about why I haven't written about Clarke. I find it uninteresting. Why isn't he writing about Kerry?
