I'm jealous.
DC just had one, as did Melbourne and Denver is having one pretty soon. So when is NY going to have a blogger's party? I want to expand the New Yorker part of my blogroll as I know or have met nearly every one on it (the only exceptions being the Ace of Spades, Politburo Diktat, Steve Silver and What's A Pundit). So who is going to organize this thing?

I feel your frustration. I missed the news on the DC party when it first came out, and by the time I heard of it I had an immutable conflict.
Hey, why don't you organize it, Karol? :-)
Posted by: Boyd at April 14, 2004 11:31 PMI should, but I'm afraid only my friends would show up and they'd all be like 'what's the point of this, we could all hang out at your place like we always do'.
Posted by: Karol at April 15, 2004 11:51 AMYup, that's what I would say.
Posted by: Dawn Summers at April 15, 2004 11:52 AMKarol,
weren't they supposed to teach you how to manage campaigns? And if you can't manage to get people to come to an event that you organize, why should people hire you?
Listen, if you want to do this, I'll provide the best fucking entertainment on Earth for that event.
Yeah Ivan, but the subject I took to most is fundraising which is quiet, background stuff. Event planning is scary. What if no one shows up? :-)
But really, I guess I just feel I don't know enough NYC bloggers to plan this myself. As I said, I already know almost everyone on my blogroll and we already hang out in my living room plenty.
Yes, you know a lot of bloggers, and you know some musicians, performers, etc. Just throw a big ass party.
Look, I've organized events for which very few people showed up (me trying to organize something became a joke. As Mr.Kirchburger said, "If Ivan led the 1917 revolution, bolsheviks would be still stuck in traffic")- and I still performed, and gave my best, and those who did show up did not regret it; neither do I.
Asking people to show up is different from asking them to give money, but still it's all marketing. It comes down to organization, promotion, and motivation. Of course my reasons for throwing my pitches at you are completely selfish. Well, so what? It's not gonna hurt anybody.
I'll wait until after the weekend, and see if I can't make you change your mind, you quiet, background person.
They have NYC Blogger Bashers two or three times a year, the last one was in January (though I missed it). The bar, AZ, threw everyone out, and then (in a fit of karma) it closed just a few days later.
