Yes, really.

Recently, Peter announced he was no longer buying Heinz ketchup. When asked why, he said something about not wanting to support John Kerry. I thought it was taking things a bit far. Turns out, there are other who think like Peter and for them there is now Bush Country Ketchup.

That's silly. Should people stop shopping at Wal-Mart because Kerry owns stock there?

I agree, Zev, it is silly especially because Heinz gives a bunch of money to Republicans. Although, I guess everyone has their own quirks. I try not to buy Chinese goods (nearly impossible to do) because the money goes to the corrupt Communist government. I also try not to buy French products because I have found France to be extremely unfriendly to America and Americans (and this is before 9/11, their obnoxiousness has reached new levels since then) and I don't want to support them.

Umm, is there even any other brand of ketchup besides Heinz sold? And if so, does it not taste like sickeningly sweet red glop?

Hey, I agree w/ your sentiment. But let's not forget that Heinz employs thousands of Americans and it would be a shame if any of them were to lose their jobs. Besidea Heinz tends to support Republicans and has made a big effort to show its not associated with the Kerry campaign.

Plus, its the only decent tasting ketchup around.

I totally support boycotting France and have been doing so for over a year.

Hunt's makes ketchup.

Yeah, Hunt's is pretty good too.

Hunt's ketchup tastes fine.

Karol, of course people have these quirks, and they're not always quirks. For example, my extended family has consciously avoided German products since WWII. My point here was that neither Kerry nor Theresa Heinz nor any member of the Heinz family has any role in running Heinz. They simply own a large amount of Heinz stock. But they own large amounts of stock in many companies! Does it make sense to boycott any company in which Kerry holds shares? Of course not.
That's why it's silly.
