James Taranto, among others, often complains about Fox News referring to someone that murders others as well as himself as a 'homicide bomber'. 'Uh, if the car bombing killed people, isn't it redundant to call it a "homicide" bombing? The second paragraph, however, points out that one of those killed in the bombing was "apparently the bomber." That's right, once again Fox is saying "homicide" when it means suicide.' AP has a phrase that I think works: 'Suicide assassin kills Iraq council chief'.

to me means some sort of skill. It does not take a lot of skill to un-skillfully blow up things.

I woud lean toward homicide, and sucide if they killed only their seleves.

or just plain bomber, but that is not very glorfiing in and of it self.

It's just to overcome the difficulty of having a phrase that sums up someone who has killed both himself and others. Suicide bomber doesn't work because it leaves out others, homocide bomber leaves out self.

Plus, assassination only refers to the killing of leaders and the like.
