The thing about playing 5 hours of Texas Hold-Em....
....is that you wake up late and find that two of the other players (here and here) have already blogged about it. I won. The lovely Ms. Jessica from New Vintage came in second. One of the players, Paul, kept trying to get us to play other types of poker games. But, some of us had remembered Dawn's post and everyone refused. We had to place two phone calls to the Brooklyn poker guru, Mr. Frank White, for clarification of what to do in certain situations. Here were the situations in case you want to test your own poker skills:
1. There is a straight to the 6 on the board. Neither player in has the Ace or the 7. Who wins?
2. There are 4 same suit cards on the board. Two players have 1 card with that suit in their hand. Who wins? (We should've known this one but it was late and the wine was flowing.)
I won the last hand as the blind with pocket nines. Not a bad way to round out the game. Some of the other players were new to the game and I can definitely see an outbreak of Texas Hold 'Em coming soon to the Upper East Side. It really is such a thing lately. When we called Mr. White, he was wrapped up in his own game. And when I told my brother about the game this morning he said he was also asked to play some Hold 'Em last night. As either Jessica or Lisa said last night: 'imagine all the games of Hold 'Em happening right now in this city.' Imagine.

so..... what's everyone doing tomorrow night????
Lisa:
If you start a Ladies Poker Night, you will regret it.
Women get too vicious in a poker game; there must be men in the game to keep order.

Isn't it your game that does all the game switching? We're Hold 'Em purists, but you're welcome to join us sometime.
Posted by: Karol at June 1, 2004 05:50 PMIn the Upper East Side, it's hardcore. We play with Pasta yo.
Posted by: PAUL at June 1, 2004 11:53 PMWhen is the next game?
Posted by: PAUL at June 1, 2004 11:54 PMHold 'em is the dominant game we play, and I also sometimes host NL tournaments, just like you see on TV, but on none tourney nights, it is dealer call the game, so it is not always Hold 'em.
