Indie Hipster Boyfriend

Doug had an extra ticket to go see Mooney Suzuki and he graciously gave it to Peter. The show was, apparently, phenomenal and Peter has finally done a write-up of it that any indie listening reader should go read.

I loved their cover of "Don't Fence Me In," in the Nike commercial with Giambi.

I've never heard the band, but the name sounds intriguing to any CAN fan (Malcolm Mooney and Damo Suzuki were their singers). I'm glad to hear the band is good and interactive.

I was thinking that it's kind of strange they would name themselves after the Can singers. They play straight ahead garage rock, and sound nothing like Can (or at least the Can songs I've heard).

I should get some music by the MS..On VH1 web site (their own doesn't seem very functional), it says something about "added punk of three-chord agility and 60s momentum" - and Can has a lot to do with both the 60s and punk. But it might be just because of the way the names sound together.
The thing about Can, most of their songs sound nothing like the rest of their songs. I once had their compilation CD playing in a car, and my friend asked me four times what band it was. With each new song, he thought it was a different band.
For Can "song" songs, try 'Mary Mary So Contrary' from Monster Movie, 'She Brings the Rain' from Soundtracks, and 'Paperhouse' from Tago Mago.
