Rap Song of the Week

I'm playing 'Welcome Back' over and over by Mase. Yes, that Mase. He became a Preacher and now he's back. The change seems to be that he is no longer cursing.

Let me bust out a little bit of old school here.

"Tell me who rock who sell out in the stores
You tell me who flopped who copped the blue drop
Who jewels got robbed who's mostly Goldie down
to the tube sock, the same ol pimp
Mase, you know ain't nuttin change but my limp
Can't stop till I see my name on a blimp"

Well I guess more than just the limp changed for Mase. Good for him. But I hope he remembers one of the great truths of the Christian faith:

"I don't know what, they want from me
It's like the more money we come across
The more problems we see"

You know, I heard that song on one of those "play it or burn it" things....none of the black people liked it. But, I found it refreshing. This could mean that they don't know good music or that I am so used to crap rap that anything even remotely uplifting seems like Mozart to me. But, in all honesty, I DIG that song...

Prompted by last week's Sopranos episode, I picked up Van Morrison's "Moondance" Thus, no rap for me, as of now. I wish at was near a lake listening to this.

A ? Vannessa. Can you get this seasons soundtrack. Gotta love Van Morrison.

I don't know about the new soundtrack yet. But I do know this:
1. "Moondance" overall, is FAR better than he Greatest Hits CD. And cheaper.
2. The song featured last week was "Good Tidings" the last song on the "Moondance" album
3. Sopranos uses lots of Van Morrisson, I have noticed through the seasons, and there are seveal songs by him on the previous soundtracks.

I really don't know that you can mix in the "Welcome Back, Kotter" theme with rap. Or maybe I'm thinking of another song?

No, Stephen, that's the one. :-)

Personally, I happen to like the new Mase. But if you really want to hear a great hip hop tune, I suggest " Jesus Walks" by Kanye West, dealing with the fact that rapping about his faith might take away from his sales, but at least will take away his sins.

By the way, good blog. I will save this page.
