Cain for Senate.

My favorite race, aside from the presidential one, this coming November is the US Senate race in Georgia. I'm a big Herman Cain fan. The Club for Growth blog notes that he has been picking up endorsements and press. I also came across a Herman Cain blog, which must be pretty new because it wasn't around when I was doing my Cain research for a media audit for class a few months ago.

The primary is coming up on July 20th, so if you live in Georgia, do go vote for Herman Cain. If you need some coaxing, go listen to him speak and read some of his positions. I know this is overused, but he does remind me of Ronald Reagan.

Cain is in a tight spot. A pizza maker who has no issues beside taxes; a man who went out of his way to avoid service in Vietnam in a state that has always prided itself on Senators who are strong defense on vet issues(Nunn, Russell); a businessman who is a motivational speaker with little base. He has a lot of flash and charisma but he has a rough month ahead of him.

The usual beltway and big apple types might like him but will he play well in Brunswick or Boone ? Hard to say. Issakson seems the front runner. Cain has yet to really take off and he has Collins there dividing the conservative vote. He needs a ground game badly. He was counting on African Americans switching over. Clearly Denise Majette being in the race may impact that to his loss.

If Cain comes in second in the primary and forces a run off, he may be able to rally social conservatives around him against Issakson. But Collins is picking up steam and has the backing of more of the RTL people than Cain does. Should be an interesting month.

Cain hinted at running for presient back in 1996 before jumping on the Forbes bandwagon in 2000. If he comes in third place, he is done politically. While a lot of people across the nation have hopes for Cain becoming a national spokesman for the party (would that be the case if he were white ? Of course not) he has a lot of work to do. Should be a fun month in the Peach State.

May Cain enjoy the same success that Pat Toomey did. (BTW, why do you still have him on your blogroll?)

I thought you wanted Toomey to win....?
