You forgot to write "developing."

Well, regardless of who said it first, it's a fantastic idea, and if Bush is re-elected and is able to implement it in his second term, he'll go down as one of our greatest presidents.

Yaron,
"he'll go down as one of our greatest presidents."

I don't know about that. It really depends on if his war on terror strager works out (which i think it will, though you can never tell)

But if he gets it implemented, he would be my favorite president.

So, not only does Dennis Hastert want the most regressive tax ever, he also wants to eliminate the entire personal tax preparation industry.

Yeah, the Republicans are all about job creation.

Richard Lugar called for abolishing the IRS during his 1996 presidential campiagn. This is not that new of an idea. The fact that Hassert is only embracing the idea of abolishing the IRS in the last months of a close presidential and congressional season tells you how serious this idea is. Come December we will never hear of it again.

Von,

"Come December we will never hear of it again."

Possible, but the idea has been around for awhile, so even if this president does not mention it, i think it will pop up some time in the future.

ugarte,

"..he also wants to eliminate the entire personal tax preparation industry.

Yeah, the Republicans are all about job creation"

And you are on the side of the IRS, i wonder if they will repay the favor?

Do you know the total amount of money that is spent in the US (paying, avoiding, researching) taxes? do you know the amount of money the goverment spends proccessing paper tax forms?
Do you know the amount of time it takes to compete an personal audit?

I think the gain in econmic productivity will offset the loss.

Secondly, the IRS would not disappear, they just get smaller. They would also get guns and they would fight the black market (were there are no taxes).

Thridly, we could give them jobs at the immgration office, you know help lock down the boarder and stuff.
