Someone please tell me....

....when exactly did one of my favorite politicos, Alan Keyes, lose his ever-loving mind?

Consider this possibility:

Keyes was inserted into the Illinois Senate race as a known loser--clearing the Party of any favors due him by giving him a widely covered platform for his ideas.

Well, these are his ideas. And entering into the race expecting to lose, why not run ahead with them? If he thinks reparations are important (let's let him have that), and he has a means to engage in dialogue about the issue, why wouldn't you expect him to do so? Sometimes people put personal issues before party politics, and this situation, where he has wide coverage with few political repurcussions, would be the perfect time.

The blogger you linked to claimed that Keyes is "pandering to Chicago-area hard-core Democrats", and "ticking off his core constituency"--but what constituency, exactly, does Keyes have in Illinois? What interest does he have in appealing to Chicago's staunchest Democrats? Rather than assuming he's gone crazy, how about taking the plausible route: that he is taking advantage of national media coverage to further an issue that he cares about?
