Moore, of course, would know nothing about sloppy, factually distorted attacks, would he?

The one thought that keeps me warm at night: No amount of attention whoring will make Michael Moore thin, attractive, or likeable. And let's face it, his feeble crusade is just the smokescreen to compensate.

Ya also have to love the little entrapment technique here: Bush denounces ALL the 527's but somehow that's not good enough...as if it wouldn't indicate a connection if he ordered the Swifities to cease and desist.Plus everyone that knows O'Neill's history realizes he'd attack Kerry under virtually any circumstances...the guy needs zero prodding, and he has a right to his views.

Oh well, Moore knows he has to check in here and there with some well timed tantrums, or his little fiction projects will go the way of the buffalo...appropriate since he so closely resembles one.

I hope he turns to even more grotesque amounts of comfort food when GW wins this thing. Or perhaps he'll sue McDonalds when his obesity reaches the point where they have to hack his mansion apart to get to his gelatanous frame upon the invitable coronary....

And speaking of distortions, ever get a a gander at Moore's picture on his Stupid White Men book? Methinks there was a little Photoshop magic at work to make him look somewhat less bovine than he in fact is...

1- i don't care what you think of mr. moore, but let's leave his weight alone. it's not proper and it makes you look quite childish.

2- aside from the massive sarcasm, what is wrong with his facts here? i don't know what you guys are reading or what kool-aid you're imbibing but...

a. i don't think there's much difference between bullets and shrapnel. either one can kill you.
b. demeaning one war medal demeans them all. i doubt kerry would have gotten one purple heart, let alone three, based on lying on his paperwork and injuring himself. with the "three hearts and you're out" thing, you COULD dispute the last one... but it would take a brave man to wound himself with shrapnel THREE times, regardless of his cause. would YOU do it???
c. bush DID slaughter mccain in 2000. not only did he, in fact, say mccain's 5 year POW stint made him "nuts," but he publicly embarrassed mccain's WHOLE FAMILY by referencing his wife's problems and his daughter's adoption. nice guy, bush. i think i'll invite him to dinner. the GOP also butchered cleland, who lost THREE of four limbs fighting for his country, by comparing him to BIN LADEN! you ask this brooklyn boy, someone did that to me, i'd be ready to throw down, four limbs or one.
d. please take your GOP hats off and let the blood flow to your brain to think for a minute. a LAWYER for bush was advising the swifties, and says he was doing so "to make sure they weren't corroborating..." and you BELIEVE that? seriously? add on that he then quits advising... BUSH! to advise the swifties! please, it's as plain as wonder bread. put your hat back on now...
e. wait, keep it off. chew on this. the GOP slams kerry for dissing vets (throwing medals, etc.) yet disses kerry (a VET, hello, people!) with allegations through the swifties who "served with kerry in vietnam" like i "live in new york with donald trump." anyone want some tea with their hypocrisy? add on the fact that bush has recently stripped veterans' benefits. hmmm... does he really love vets? or just those that help him get votes?

3- everyone knows bob dole is a loon. i don't understand how he would know if kerry actually bled. it's a fact that dole's other comment, about multiple purple hearts on one day, is a blatant LIE, although i'd guess that dole didn't actually "research" that one himself. but i know i personally have thought dole was a crackpot since his run in '96, so these comments were not much of a surprise to me.

Regarding Moore's girth: People knock Bush's alleged lack of intelligence without too much plain evidence.(Please don't cite a C+ average at an Ivy league school) So an obvious fact like Moore's obesity is in my view, fine and dandy. And hey, if it's good enough for Christopher Hitchens, it's good enough for me. As far as propriety goes...I've watched lefties curse out and swing at Bush supporters at Union Sqaure, so I think I'll allow my self this little indulgence. And at any rate, they don't pay me enough to be proper.

Ah, it always goes back to McCain doesn't it...even after he asked Kerry to yank his visage off the ads? That was all in the family, and at any rate not particularly relevant as McCain is clearly, obviously and strongly supporting Bush.

A quick study of the Swifties (whose claims I do not completely support) shows them to be cut from a varied pastiche of idealogical cloth: Dems, Republicans, some ardent Perotites. Hmmm...seems like mighty multi-flavored Kool-Aid to me.

At any rate, Bush has done what he can to distance himself from these guys; he even said that Kerry's service was more heroic than his own. It's unclear what more Kerry wants; it is clear, however, that he and his constituents are shaken up more than a little; hmmmm....some poise, whining and crying in the face of a few arrows shot his way while Bush routinelty laughs off comparisons to Hitler. Saying the Swifties are a front group for Bush is beyond irresponsible...and as for convoluted links between outside administration lawyers...just throw a rock and you're bound to hit one of those.

Ralph, I've argued most of the points you bring up before, and it's late so I'll just say that my point was about the adoring liberal media. Michael Moore issuing a scathing open letter to Bush is not news. The media just wishes it was.

tom - no matter what people on either side of the political ledger do, we shouldn't stoop to their level. name calling is not necessary, and drops the conversation back into elementary school. if others wish to go there, fine, but we should hold ourselves to a higher standard... regardless of whether we are "paid enough" or not (a lousy excuse, by the by).

i will posit that while yes, it is impossible to claim (factually) that bush is stupid, i can say that he certainly has his moments that can make him appear less-than-bright, or, at best, not wise. one example (for now): bush tried to answer a question about tribal sovereignty in the 21st century, although he had ZERO clue what to say and spoke such a convoluted mess that people in attendance couldn't help but laugh at him. if you'd like, i'll paste the text, but it started like this: "tribal sovereignty means just that - you're sovereign." HUH?!?!?! yes, there is a classy way out of this situation... tell the guy you are studying the issue, and will have to get back to him on it. he tried - i'll give him credit - but perhaps he should stop trying...

mccain has acknowledged he's supporting bush for his party's sake. either that, or he is a complete pansy flip-flopper after how viciously bush attacked him in 2000 - a fact i notice you do not deny. bush's attacks back then were shameful - denigrating a veteran's service. yet another strike against bush's treatment of veterans.

i never mentioned the swifties' political stripes - nor should it matter. i never said they were looking for political gain, or that they're lying because they're republican. maybe lying because they're broke? who knows? but they are lying in the service of character assassination, and that should not be allowed to fly.

bush has NOT done all he can to distance himself from the swifties. not when, within a day or two after moveon.pac's ads condemning the swifties' ads, kerry publicly denounced the moveon.pac ads, saying something to the effect of "it's not necessary to play dirty politics on either side, let's stop it here. i'll call my dogs off; please, mr. president, do the same." for bush to have done ALL he can do to distance himself, all he needs to do is say "SBV, stop making those ads." 7 words (if we extend SBV fully, 9 words). that's all it would take. mccain even broke ranks (maybe not such a pansy after all), publicly condemned them himself, and urged bush to do the same. no, bush just says "we shouldn't have 527 ads at all." why doesn't he just say "it's wrong to demean kerry's war record"? another 7 words. where are these words? bush won't condemn them because they are single-handedly responsible for keeping his numbers slightly above kerry's. why should he care if his lead is based on a lie? it's a lead! but it's a lead based on incivility - not a trait i'd like in my president.

bush then denigrates the mccain-feingold campaign reform act, even though this is the first presidential campaign done under this bipartisan bill, and obviously there are still some loopholes that need to be closed. computer systems are never safe - hackers pore over code until they find a loophole, and they exploit it for as long as they can. close that loophole, and they will scratch away until they find a new one. same thing here, and i'm sure this will be taken care of regardless of who wins in november.

saying that it's irresponsible to accuse the bush campaign of corroboration with the swifties is just as irresponsible as accusing clinton of "wag the dog" military policies during the whole monica debacle. in fact, the administration's worries of "wag the dog" accusations were one of the many factors stopping clinton from going after osama in '98. in 2004, the link between bush and the swifties is more concrete - it's a person. comparing bush to hitler is a non-starter - everyone knows such comparisons are full of hot air and are not meant to be taken seriously. the swifties barrage ad watchers with "he's lying, he's lying, he's lying" - although, actually, THEY'RE lying. again, tea with the hypocrisy?
