Rather ratings drop

Lots of people are mentioning the drop in viewership for Dan Rather. I think that's pretty funny since I didn't realize he was still on TV until this whole memogate story hit. Gawker implies that its Republicans who are tuning Rather out but seriously, who else is watching at this point and following every word of an interview with the secretary of the guy that supposedly wrote the memo and who has been dead for years. Right-leaning bloggers are pretty much the only audience Rather has left.

I watched the Rather interview because I believe it is important for us to have full disclosure of President Bush's military record since he is sending our young men and women to war. The memo's have been desputed but not the heart of the story. Don't you want to know the truth?

This is American politics. You'll find the truth slumped over in a corner with a sword sticking out of its chest and a gunshot wound to the head.

The truth is that whatever happened, and I believe that Bush has released all his information while war hero Kerry has not, Bush isn't running on his National Guard record. If that's all Democrats have at this point, they're in big trouble.

I hope Shawn, Mary and their friends continue to bang the "the docs are fake, but we should pay attention to what they say" drum.

Bush couldn't ask for better press than such illogic coming from the Kerry camp.

I'm more of a "This reflecting on 30-year old history doesn't allow us to focus on the issues of today, so both campaigns should join us in the here and now" drum beater myself.

Suppose being called an Aggie isn't too far in my future...

I have a 1997 memo signed by Lizzie Borden admitting that Rather helped her hatchet her parents. Since Lizzie was dead in 1997, there is a chance that the memo was fraudulent. Just the same, Rather needs to answer the charges, which might be true even though the document is not. Can he produce a solitary witness who saw the crime and can vouch for his absence at the scene? Until he does, I'm afraid we have to accept the memo and believe he is guilty. Modern journalistic standards require no less.

I thought Dan Rather died 20 years ago.The only thing I watch on CBS is college football.
