I. Can't. Take. Any. More. Vietnam.
Outdoor Life: Are you a gun owner? If so, what is your favorite gun?
John Kerry: My favorite gun is the M-16 that saved my life and that of my crew in Vietnam. I don’t own one of those now, but one of my reminders of my service is a Communist Chinese assault rifle.
Via Instapundit. An Instapundit readers asks Kerry (among other things) 'How can you support a law that forbids other people owning a weapon that you already own?' Glenn wants to know 'if there's any question -- any freaking question at all -- that Kerry can answer without mentioning Vietnam'.

Well, he has had plenty of things to say recently about the Bush Administration failures in Iraq, that is, if you can bring yourself to read about them.
You might even find them worth refuting.
Posted by: Joseph Marshall at September 22, 2004 12:30 AMActually, I'd suggest the Field & Stream debates. I think Kerry actually comes off better in those than Bush does. It especially hurts that Bush says (because the lead time must have been long) that he plans on keeping the assualt weapons ban in place ... and then didn't. But Kerry, although I don't like him, DOES have plenty of smart things to say about hunting, fishing and conservation and slams Dubya in a coherent, meaningful way (as opposed to his usual "where's your plan Mr. President" garbage)
Posted by: ken at September 22, 2004 01:45 AMI think this was a very smart and meaningful time to bring up his vietnam service. I am sure most combat veterans would agree that a gun that got them through hard times is very important. But I am not excusing all the other times he brings up vietnam.

Haven't you heard? He's so tethered to Vietman because he was there. He arrived for duty. Yep, served in Vietnam he did. Could be that's why he makes mention of it from time to time. He'd make it his platform really, but he's simply too modest to make a big ado.
He's such a man of the people *sigh*

Posted by: Yaron at September 22, 2004 10:16 AMIf asked where his most satisfying trip to the bathroom ever occurred, Kerry could be counted on to remember a visit to a latrine in Vietnam that's seared, SEARED into his memory...
