Yet another delinking.
For the entire length that I've had this blog, I've never delinked anyone. And, now twice in one week, I am taking someone off. I linked Captain Normal because he was commenting on my site pretty regularly but the day I did he had a photo of a naked, dead woman who had died from a botched abortion. He wrote that if you're voting for Bush, you're voting for that. Ok, sick, but I had just added him, I couldn't take him right off, right? Well, now I can. His latest post has a photo of segregated water fountains and he writes, not implies but actually says, that a vote for Bush is a vote for those separate fountains. Sorry, that's just too disgusting for me (not that I want Dawn Summers drinking from my water fountain but that's not because she's black), and well, the post makes me more nauseous than anyone on my blogroll should. So, though it's only been a week or so, byebye Captain Normal, spread your gross boogieman stories elsewhere. It's been real.

Racist. In print, twice in one day. This has to be a record.
Posted by: Dawn Summers at October 7, 2004 08:02 PMOnly against you.
Posted by: Karol at October 7, 2004 08:04 PMAnother classic:
"If you think rape should be legal, don't vote."
Cameron Diaz
Maybe it's just that you're under a large amount of stress campaigning with 'big beer' combined with 'that time' of the month.
(don't delink me, your all I have)
:)
I link to several Bush blogs, and I'm a Democrat supporting Kerry. You have every right to link and delink people. I don't think you should get bent out of shape over strong opinions, though, unless you can't help it or control it.
Posted by: Christian Grantham at October 7, 2004 11:10 PMChristian, I don't think Karol has any problems with strong opinions. She's linked to other Ds with very strong opinions--many of whom's blogs I've read myself. That type of thing, a picture of a dead woman with that type of slogan attached, is several steps beyond what can be termed "a strong opinion".
Posted by: bond girl at October 7, 2004 11:29 PMOf course, by making a big deal out of it, you probably caused more people to go look at his sight than if you had just left him there or quietly delinked him.
Is that counter to your reasons for delinking?
Of course, I would find such an approach consistent.
Posted by: Signor_Ferrari at October 8, 2004 12:07 AMLook, I count one of the biggest leftist wackos as one of my best friends, it's not opinions I disagree with that I can't take. This guy said that if you vote for Bush, you're a racist. HELLO, I'm voting for Bush. And, I won't stand being called a racist. Well, by anyone other than the aforementioned wacko leftist best friend.
Also, I don't feel right quietly removing someone. I mean, if you were to visit someone's site and they've removed you, wouldn't you want to know why?
Posted by: Karol at October 8, 2004 01:08 AMChristian, the item in question wasn't a strong opinion. It was agitprop, a lie intended to inflame. It was disingenuous and disgraceful.
We live in a country, thankfully, where everybody enjoys freedom of speech. But that doesn't change the fact that there's a right and a wrong way to go about it. Disagreeing on policy is right. Spewing hateful propaganda is wrong.
And as to the "you've just given him more traffic" question, crap like the should be seen by as many people as possible. The sooner it's dragged out into the harsh light of day, the sooner it will be seen for what it is: vile calumny intended to undermine reasoned debate.
Posted by: Jeff Harrell at October 8, 2004 02:49 AMOf course you can link or unlink me at will---it is your blog. But while you condemn me for being over the top, you continue to work for a party that is blatantly racist, anti-gay, anti-women, and anti-equal rights for all Americans.
I discoveedd your blog during the Republican convention, where you loved the keynote speech by an old segregationist anger-junkie. But somehow I'm over the line.
Unable to defend the incompetence and hatemongering of the Bush White House, you've chosen to ignore it.
Posted by: Don Myers at October 8, 2004 07:17 AMOh, and by the way, I'm not the only person who thinks the Bush Administration is racist. The U.s. Commission on Civil Rights agrees with me.

Posted by: Don Myers at October 8, 2004 07:23 AMHey, Don....welcome to the club.
Unless you consider blogging some kind of a popularity contest or a way to pick up some extra cash or, say, a video cam, from your readers, delinking ain't all that.
Posted by: Rick at October 8, 2004 09:03 AMCompletely concur with your decision to publically out the racist-misogynist that runs that site. I've heard comments about how out of mainstream the extreme left has gotten but had not seen anything as bad as that goof. Worst of it is there are probably some people out there dumb enough to fall for his BS.
Posted by: LargeBill at October 8, 2004 09:47 AMYeah, delink him. I've delinked people due to their stupidity, and I have no problem with that reasoning. This dude seems to just be inciting hate.
Posted by: Stephen at October 8, 2004 10:05 AMOh, and by the way, I'm not the only person who thinks the Bush Administration is racist.
That obviously proves that you're right. What a lemming.
I've seen no evidence that commenting reguarly leads to a link...
Posted by: Ugarte at October 8, 2004 10:58 AMhahahahahahaahah....ahhh Ugarte, you and Signor Ferrari now place our lovely Karol in the position of either *gasp* linking to RickBlaine.com or ... well, this is going to be fun. :)
hahahahahahahahahhahahahahaha
Posted by: Dawn Summers at October 8, 2004 11:05 AMUgarte, if you blogged on Ugarte.com I would've linked to you a long time ago, but you're right, it's time I do the right thing and link to icky Rick Blaine. Blogroll update forthcoming.
Posted by: Karol at October 8, 2004 11:16 AMBTW, I consider blogging a community where I get to decide what kind of people I don't want to live next to.
Posted by: Karol at October 8, 2004 11:30 AMWe are going to have to arrange a meeting the next time Rick is in New York. You guys could finally bury the hatchet - in each other's backs or otherwise.
Posted by: Ugarte at October 8, 2004 11:44 AMAnd Dawn, wasn't that your cue to say "racist"?
Posted by: Ugarte at October 8, 2004 11:44 AMPersonally I would be honored to be linked and then mysteriously delinked. I would assume that you just got bored of my highly erratic blogging style.
I should say, however, that I add and remove people all of the time, but my site's blog roll physically drives my web-based rss aggregator...
And I would have delinked at the dead naked woman and not waited for the racist remark.
Since I'm undecided, and not a racist, perhaps I should let those comments sway my vote?
Posted by: Kearns at October 8, 2004 12:03 PMhahahahaha, ugarte you're right. Not only did I miss my racist cue, I also missed my "stop calling me fat" cue from earlier. That's what happens when I pay too much attention to doing the work I am actually paid to do! :(
