Ijits.
I have a question for all the morons (I'm not linking, look up the big liberal bloggers and there they'll be) who think Bush was wearing an earpiece during the first debate: forget that Bush supposedly did poorly in the first debate (I say 'supposedly' because I still haven't seen it) and so if there was someone talking in his ear they were doing a poor job, but if he was wearing an earpiece, wouldn't there be something in his ear? Wouldn't Kerry see it when they were near each other? Wouldn't the make-up people? What does the bulge prove? Was it tapping morse code messages onto his back?

What's the harm in a private investigation? You're right that it's implausible, but so was all the Swift Vets who suddenly did a 180 on Kerry between when they endorsed his last Senate race and when they caricatured him as baseless and unfit to live.
If you don't mind, the left side of the blogosphere would like to make their Rathergate-level expose now. If they're barking up the wrong tree, you should be celebrating, not giving them hints.
Posted by: Andrew at October 10, 2004 12:57 AMIt clearly looked like a Bullet Proof vest. Not even a question.
Posted by: jc at October 10, 2004 01:34 AMThe White House said that it was not a bulletproof vest. They could be lying, but given that this administration is as politically savvy as it is, I don't think they would've purposefully lied about that--it just raised suspicion. The play-by-play is happening here.
In the end, Karol's right and it seems like a pretty lame dead-end.
Posted by: Andrew at October 10, 2004 01:41 AMThe bulge is from the alien mind control device attached to W's spine. All of the high level GOP operatives have them!
Everybody knows this, they just won't admit it.
Need. More. Tin. Foil. Oops, I have to go now...the orderlies are coming.

Posted by: Tennessee Tuxedo at October 10, 2004 09:07 AMThis story cracks me up. Right after the first debate, Drudge ran a story that Kerry cheated by having index cards at the debate and a number of Republican activist types picked it up and ran with it. Now the coin is reversed. It seems they, much like the president, can punch but can not take a punch.
Posted by: Von Bek at October 10, 2004 11:05 AMSo true, Von Bek, so true. This gang are bullies, pure and simple...and like all bullies, they're cowards at heart. They can dish it out but they can't take it.
IF---and I want to emphasize the "if"---the earpiece story ist true, it would be a minor albeit wholly-consistant crime on the part of the Bush White House.
BTW, Karol---the technology for an "invisable" earpiece (placed far enough into the ear canal as to be virtually indetectable) is fairly common. Network correspondents use it all the time during "stand ups," and Dubya has used it before at rallies where he has a new stump speech and no teleprompter.
Posted by: Don Myers at October 10, 2004 11:14 AMVon Bek, any mention of mystery paper from Kerry's pocket on this site?
Posted by: Karol at October 10, 2004 11:52 AMFrom you no but if I recall correctly one of my fellow commenters did make a note of it. If most of the Republican establishment had half your brains Karol they would be in better shape.
Posted by: Von Bek at October 10, 2004 12:18 PMGrrr, I hate being disarmed with a compliment. I thought the Kerry/paper story was nonsense, and I would hope that smart liberals think the earpiece story is too.
Posted by: Karol at October 10, 2004 12:22 PMOne would hope there are smart liberals who refuse to buy into the story however it is a close and fierce election on both sides so rationality may not be in high demand these days.
But who am I to judge about what is rational? I read a link that said Guiliani had died and I was stunned. So I read the link and some former scout for the Twins named Guiliani had indeed died. I breathed a sigh of relief thinking it was Mayor Rudy, one of the strongest men in American public life as much as I disagree with him on some issues. Then I remembered I was at cbssportsline.com reading about today's games and the link about the death was under a heading labeled Baseball. So I was feeling pretty dumb.
Posted by: Von Bek at October 10, 2004 12:28 PMIf you actually read the posts and comments on these liberal sites, you will see that most liberals think the radio speculation is nonsense.
Posted by: Rick Blaine at October 10, 2004 12:44 PMyeah, but where's the post calling them "ijits"? that would include drudge and instapundit...
Posted by: dawn at October 10, 2004 02:38 PMScrappleface has a good post on this mystery. Funny, but true.
