What a nuisance that was.

Today is the fourth anniversary of the bombing of the USS Cole.

...and the two year anniversary of the Bali nightclub bombing.

Good thing it prompted everyone to take the terrorist threat so seriously. Yes, I'm Monday morning QB'ing.

Please, Karol, remind me who referred to the people blowing up our soldiers in Baghdad as nuisances.

Hint: It is the guy living at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. who also says that the war on terrorism can't be won.

If you want to parrot the administration, that's your right, but you seem capable of higher thought than spitting out the spin o' the day.

I believe it was John Kerry who said that he would like to return to a time when terrorism was little more than a nuisance...a quote that has been mocked, shredded, fisked, et. al. in the right wing blogosphere.

To be fair, Clinton should have proceeded with some kind of retaliation soon after the Cole attack. However, you might say the BS about "wag the dog" in 1998 helped him decide to wait until after the election was over.

Bush, at the time, made some noise about how he would be tough about it. THEN...

When Bush took office they dropped the subject. Clinton people told him that bin Laden was the biggest threat. They ignored them.

Proof came in March 2001 that the Cole was an al Queda operation. Bush did nothing.

About the same time, the report of the Hart_Rudman commission came out, predicting attacks on the U.S., and proposing solutions including the Homeland Security dept. Bush appointed Dick Cheney to organize his response, which is the same as doing nothing.

Attempts by Richard Clarke and others to focus attention on the al Queda threat were sabotaged by Wolfowitz and the other neocons. They wanted to focus on Saddam Hussein who was doing exactly nothing to threaten America.

I could go on, but there is a bottom line here. Bush and his people are simply too corrupt, too incompetent, and too political to defend the USA against terrorists. If you can't understand and deal with the facts on the ground, rather than what your ideologues wish were the case, you have no business leading troops into battle.

We're lucky Kerry is as experienced and capable as he is, because next to Bush, anyone is better.

You're absolutely right. The only problem is, we have no convenient Communist nation nearby to fight for while we're, for appearances, fighting against.

If Kerry=experienced and capable, Me=A.L. MVP, most eligible bachelor.
