Quote of the Day
'That they had to fly in doctors to treat him in a makeshift clinic underscores how, after 50 years of UN relief and billions in European investment, there are no Palestinian institutions. Not even decent hospitals for its supreme leader.'
-Belmont Club on Yassir Arafat.

Well, at least one of the doctors is from Ramallah hospital. The fact they made a "house call" says nothing in light of:
* Israel's imposed house arrest (I guarantee you that this is one of the points on which they'll be blamed for killing Arafat)
* Arafat possibly being too sick to survive a trip to the hospital
Dear lord I just hope all of this is code for:
The Shin-Bet stormed his compound and finally shot that bastard in the head.
Posted by: Ari at October 28, 2004 11:15 AMYou know what he needs? A Jewish doctor.
Posted by: ugarte at October 28, 2004 12:28 PMAh, looks like they are flying him out anyway ... nothing to lose, I guess:

Posted by: Ari at October 28, 2004 02:17 PMIt sickens me to see so many supposedly civilized people gleefully cackling over the failing health of a respected world leader like Yasser Arafat, who has worked for decades to achieve peace and prosperity for his people.
Yasser Arafat was given a Nobel Peace Prize in 1994 for his efforts to build peace in the Middle East. Can you say the same for Ariel Sharon? No — and that proves Yasser is a man of peace, a true representative of the Religion of Peace.
If only you would realize that it is the nation of Israel who is the cause of all violence in the Middle East, maybe you would see that Arafat has never had any choice at all. He and the disenfranchised Palestinian people were FORCED to employ terrorist-like tactics, because that is the only way to fight an oppressive, genocidal government like that of Israel. When will you condemn ISRAELI aggression, imperialism and terrorism?

Posted by: Alceste at October 28, 2004 06:24 PMThey're sending him to Paris to get patched up. That makes sense.
N Light ND: Sorry it 'sickens' you that we 'supposedly civilized people' aren't sending get-well cards to a terrorist. I hope you don't stay 'sick' long. As for Yasser, may God have mercy on his soul, because God knows I wouldn't.
I can’t believe that they are sending him to Paris. Have they not heard about socialised medicine in Europe? You would think that with all the money he has stolen, and lets face it he must have loads left because I know for a fact that you can get combat trousers from any Army & Navy Store for £15, that he would be heading for the best medial treatment money can buy in the USA.
Posted by: Graeme at October 29, 2004 03:04 AMHis wife lives in Paris. I don't think he's going there for the medicine.
Posted by: Karol at October 29, 2004 03:44 AMFrance has a superb health system that is second to none.
Arafats wife is estranged from him although she is on her way to his compound or was as of yesterday.
Sharon is a well known terrorist and is a complete shit but seeing as he is israeli thats ok.
Posted by: young-white-and-liberal at October 29, 2004 06:19 AMSharon is not and never has been a terrorist. He is a war criminal. It was the ex-Israeli Prime Ministers Menachem Begin and Yitzak Shamir that were the terrorists.
