So, whose fault is it that the mainstream media made a big mess of the missing explosives story?

Why, bloggers, of course!

Bloggers? Hysterical!

We know that the real mess was made by the White House, who tried a dozen different denial strategies before settling on the (once again) easily falsifiable claim that "the weapons were already gone when we arrived."

They should have just stuck with "The New York Times?"

Ugarte,

The NY Times published an inaccurate story that has yet to be retracted or proved. They did this a week before the election, with an aim to sway it. Sure the White House is on the defensive. They know the power that NY Times wields and how many people are influenced by its lies.

I've yet to see any evidence that the story is inaccurate, Karol. The explosives were there on April 18. They went missing sometime in May. The White House was notified of the importance of the site prior to the war, but did not move to secure the site. Is this even questioned anymore? By anyone who isn't desperately trying to exonerate the Administration?

And as Iocaste said, even if the explosives were gone (they weren't), there was no effort made to secure the site before we "knew" that Al Qa Qaa had been (hypothetically) looted.

Just out of curiosity, whose fault is it that Karol made a big mess of the story?

Thank God for bloggers like you Karol that shine the beacon of truth on the vast sea of left wing media lies.

But Jake, you just had three sources showing that Karol is just trying to muddy the already clear waters, how is that ok?

Mayor Rudy just blamed it on the troops.

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20041029/ap_on_el_pr/bush_bad_news&cid=694&ncid=716

"No matter how you try to blame it on the president, the actual responsibility for it really would be for the troops that were there. Did they search carefully enough — didn't they search carefully enough?" Giuliani said on NBC's "Today" program.

I am so looking forward to 2008 and seeing Rudy get crushed and humiliated in Iowa and NH assuming he does not lose to Spitzer or Schumer in 2006.

Heres an even better story then the NY Times story. This comes from the washington post. (then again, you guys must not trust them either, if its not FOX news, its automatically trash)

"U.S. military commanders estimated last fall that Iraqi military sites contained 650,000 to 1 million tons of explosives, artillery shells, aviation bombs and other ammunition. The Bush administration cited official figures this week showing about 400,000 tons destroyed or in the process of being eliminated. That leaves the whereabouts of more than 250,000 tons unknown."

I haven't written about this story since that first confused day because ZERO has been proven in any direction. I can provide you links that say your links are nonsense. I can understand your desperation in trying to pin this on Bush (there's only a few days left, you guys and the NY Times understand that pressure), but I think its more reasonable to wait and hear the whole story.

And Von Bek, I think Rudy was saying the same as I said the other day. If this is going to be someone's 'fault', then how can it be Bush's? He wasn't there, there were men on the ground who are responsible for things like this. He's not 'blaming' the troops in that there isn't anything to blame on them yet. There are conflicting stories as to when the explosives disappeared and also as to whether there were even nearly as many explosives as there were said to be.

Karol, please. You have posted four separate times about this since October 25, when you said, based on an NBC report that said no such thing, that "the 300 tons of explosive . . . went missing before a single one of our soldiers was on the ground." Each time you the position that the NYTimes piece was a "pack of lies" and part of a vast left-wing conspiracy against Bush. You are going through contortions that are painful to watch to try and deflect blame from Bush.

As Jon Stewart said last night, "Finally. A leader with the courage to support the war, but blame the troops."

Yeah, have your links talk to my links.

Seriously, make with the proof, Ms. "THEY WERE NEVER THERE!!!'
