Just Askin'
Isn't it a little rich that the party that spent this election shrieking 'stop questioning my patriotism!!!!' whenever their positions on anything from taxes to war were challenged is now the party that wants to split up the union or join Canada or try to harm the states that didn't vote the way they would've liked them to? I'd say that's pretty unpatriotic.

Provide evidence that we are "the party that wants to split up the union or join Canada?"
Trying "to harm other states" is as american as the world series or the corporate law race to the bottom.
Posted by: Dawn Summers at November 11, 2004 01:48 PMWell, I am not unsually one to advise Democrats, but I somehow doubt the slogan "You're stupid! Now vote for me!" is going to win it for them in '08.
Posted by: Dorian at November 11, 2004 01:51 PMSplitting up the Republic (I don't like the U word) can be very patriotic. If you asked the men who gathered in Montgomery in 1861, they would have said they were following the ideals of the Founders. Still, this is more like Hartford Convention (for those of you who came in late, New England Federalists who planned to leave the Republic during Mr. Madison's war) than Montgomery.
If it happened, I would say, wayward sisters go in peace. Live with your taxes, levitathan state, unlimited immigration, socialism, abortion, civil unions, Hollywood values and so on. Join Canada if you like. Feel free to worship God in your way while we worship Him in His. Just let free trade reign.
But I hope it does not happen.

Posted by: Von Bek at November 11, 2004 02:29 PM"the party" wants to secede/split up the union? The day a member of the DNC or Democratic elected official suggests that, then I'll believe it.
Posted by: Stephen Silver at November 11, 2004 02:38 PMI visited this site, fuckthesouth.com, put up by some sore losers who try to sound all tough and arrogant. Apart from being pathetic and silly, they don't seem to understand geography. I don't think the split is two coasts vs. Middle America. I tend to agree with people like Jeff Jarvis who say the split is urban vs. suburban. And in this context, I urge my fellow urbanites: Don't spit on where you come from. Don't cut yourself off from your roots. Even if your professor says that's the progressive thing to do.
Posted by: Ivan Lenin at November 11, 2004 03:12 PMbut are they "the party"?
Posted by: Dawn Summers at November 11, 2004 03:31 PMHey Dawn, So's your face!
Posted by: ken at November 11, 2004 03:41 PMI can't believe Ken "so's your face"d me. Well played, old boy, well played.
Posted by: Dawn Summers at November 11, 2004 04:11 PMThe website mentioned in Lenin's post has to be a parody. The domain is owned by the same person who owns swiftyachtvets.com, billionairesforbush.com and whitehouseprops.com. They're all obviously leftie sites, but in context the stuff is funny as hell!
Oh, the owner of the site also appears to be from Wisconsin... so much for being a member of the "Arrogant Northeast Liberal Elite."
Posted by: Lloyd Hanson at November 12, 2004 08:28 AMHey, the libs aren't the only ones calling for the dissolution of the Union in the wake of the election....
Seriously, though, this stuff drives me nuts, when put forward by anyone.
Posted by: M E-L at November 12, 2004 11:16 AMI don't question their patriotism - I know it sucks.
Posted by: Radical Redneck at November 12, 2004 02:05 PMIvan, I looked at the Fuckthesouth.com website. They're not being "sore losers". It never mentions the election, Bush or Kerry.
It's a website pissed about the South dissen on the Northeast. And they are dissen back.
