Hey, hey, hey, goodbye
Dan Rather has resigned from his post at CBS.
The second paragraph in the story:
The veteran anchor has been under fire in recent months for his role in a "60 Minutes Wednesday" story that questioned President Bush (news - web sites)'s service in the National Guard, which turned out to based on allegedly forged documents.
H/T Dawn Summers.

Posted by: from Me at November 23, 2004 12:47 PMIt's bittersweet jubilation, at best. He's still gonna hang around to peddle his stink on the "60 Worthless Minutes" program.
Posted by: dewaun at November 23, 2004 01:15 PMLets total up the score for the Bloggers. Through the investigative work of bloggers, these jerks are no longer working in MSM:
1. Jayson Blair of the NYT
2. Howell Raines of the NYT
3. Gerald Boyd of the NYT
3. Dan Rather of CBS.
I think Peter Jennings of ABC should be the next to go.
Bloggers, man your battle stations.
Posted by: Jake at November 23, 2004 03:10 PMBloggers did not take down Jayson Blair, a reporter from the dallas morning post did (he stole her story on jessica lynch and she reported it)
Posted by: Dawn Summers at November 23, 2004 04:20 PMAnd since Raines and Boyd both fell like dominoes as a result of the Blair scandal I think we can also take 2 and 3 off of your list.
Posted by: pearatty at November 23, 2004 05:00 PMUh, Rather is 73 and retiring in March. I don't think that bloggers alone knocked him out.
Posted by: Von Bek at November 23, 2004 06:10 PMI'd agree with you on that too, von bek. but jake at least has a plausible argument with rather, he has no such plausibility with respect to jayson blair.
Posted by: Dawn Summers at November 23, 2004 06:53 PMEr, Dawn? That's Dallas Morning News.
But yeah, bloggers alone didn't force Rather's hand. Did it facilitate his decision? I'd say yeah.
Posted by: Shawn at November 23, 2004 07:41 PMDawn:
I am almost certain that a blogger was first to see the plagiarism and emailed the fact to both newspapers.
Posted by: Jake at November 23, 2004 08:27 PMOh great. Now we'll have TWO raving, demented, former CBS new anchors on the loose. Remember when the streets were safe?
Posted by: Bruce at November 23, 2004 11:03 PMFrom what I heard on FNC's "Fox and Friends" that Dan is resigning from the anchor position, but keeping his other positions. He will still be in the background in CBS like a cockroach...
It is also reported that Dan has been talking with management about when to resign from his anchor position since the beginning of summer. They also said that the announcement of his resignation is coming out before the "Rathergate" report comes out to make it look less like the reason of his resignation.
Of course the "Rathergate" report was promised us in a short time (weeks), not months. It has now been 2 months.
