Cracking up
I'm honestly surprised that more isn't being said in the blogosphere about Maureen Dowd's pretty shocking piece about her family. I don't know what to make of it. I feel like she's been in public therapy for a few years now and this is just an extension of that. And though I'm sure I'm taking it in an entirely different way than she intended, I have to agree with Dawn Summers: 'This goes a long way to explaining some of the crackiness in her columns.'.

I'm just shocked she was lazy enough to just run a letter from her brother as almost her entire column.

Too bad her brothers do not become violent when they eat too much turkey.
The only thing "shocking" about the column is that she allowed her brother to speak for himself, rather than distorting and caricaturing his views. As a result, he comes off as having views that about 85 percent of the American public (and maybe even 50 percent of NYTimes readers) would share.
