Classy
LAUREN Bacall marred an otherwise-pleasant evening celebrating 2004's best movies by trashing Charlton Heston, the screen icon detested by lefties because he headed the National Rifle Association before he developed Alzheimer's. Bacall was presenting the New York Film Critics Circle award for Best Foreign Language Film to director Pedro Almodovar for his "Bad Education." At the Roosevelt Hotel — where Clint Eastwood, Virginia Madsen, Paul Giamatti and Clive Owen were also honored — Bacall told the crowd how Almodovar introduced himself to Heston one night at a similar event. "Pedro said, 'Mr. Heston, you are a great star. Everybody knows you. Everybody loves you, but you are sitting in my seat.' Heston ignored him. Pedro went and sat somewhere else. That's the kind of guy Pedro is, and that's the kind of guy the other guy is." The critics in the room — who also honored the absent Michael Moore, Heston's tormentor in "Bowling for Columbine" — laughed and cheered.Posted by Karol at January 11, 2005 01:59 PM | TrackBack

Hey, "Talk to Her" was pretty good.
Posted by: Steve at January 11, 2005 02:23 PMI liked 'All About My Mother'. What's one thing got to do with another?
Posted by: Karol at January 11, 2005 02:24 PMThat would offend me more if she criticized Heston's politics. If it is a true story, I don't see what is wrong with telling it. She is trying to compliment Almodovar and if Heston suffers by that comparison because of a real event, tough shit. He should have given up the seat.
Posted by: ugarte at January 11, 2005 03:02 PMThis is very sick but is typical of the way the left treats people less fortunate than they are.
This incident happened in 2003 when Pedro Almodóvar was receiving awards for his movie "Hable con ella" (including the Academy Award.)
Charlton Heston had Alzheimer's at that time and did not know how to react to a man who has a very heavy accent.
Shame on Lauren Bacall. Shame on everyone who applauded her. More proof that the Hollywood left are among the most reprehensible people on this earth.

Posted by: Rick Blaine at January 11, 2005 04:34 PMSome people find it so unbearable to be out of power that there is almost a feeling on entitlement to have it back. Anything goes. Recounts. Turning away the Bush twins at a Manhattan restaurant and cheering about it in front of them in the cruelest way...And now this.
Posted by: Dorian at January 11, 2005 04:40 PMooh...where's the link about the Bush twins???

"You will only get this seat if you pry them away from my cold dead hands!"
