Is there something in the water? (by guest blogger Dawn Summers)

Watching the gaggle of press covering protestors being arrested for attempting to hydrate Terri Schiavo, I can't help but feeling like Florida has become the media frenzy capital of the world.

In the past five years they have played host to:

The Elian riots

The 2000 Election fiasco

The shark attack summer

Arrest of the Governor's Daughter

Boy crashing stolen plane into building

Last year's Hurricane-polooza

and now this.

Sure, California tried to compete with its Scott Peterson/mudslide/Governor recall, but hands down, Florida's got them beat.

Thank goodness I live here, in the peaceful obscurity of New York City.

Cali: Condit, Peterson, Menendez, Jackson, Blake, Rodney King, etc.

How the hell does FLA beat CA?!

Because there's a real human interest story going on there?

This woman is being starved to death by a man who doesn't love her and a runaway judiciary that needs to be put in its place.

Oh, and now a Senate with no semblance of a moral compass.

It's time for a Jeb executive order. Step up to the plate, Bush 44.

This is a really tough issue with no clear answer. Along the lines of abortion and assisted suicide. I think its up to the caregiver or guardian in this case the husband. Obviously that can't be applied to every medical situation but this woman has been in a coma for a very long time.

King and menendez predated this post's study, condit hub bub really took place in D.C.--jackson and blake, big, yes -- but no one has been hauled off to jail protesting the jackson trial or the blake verdict.

Don't forget the Jessica Lunsford event, also in Florida. It's been overshadowed by Terri Schiavo, but it's holding its own against the Michael Jackson Show for second place on the news. Jessica's case is more tragic that Terri's if you ask me. Unfortunately it's also less unusual.

And that other girl's kidnapping that was captured by videocamera behind the parking lot.
