Liberals gone mad

Ms. Dawn Summers gleefully sent me a quote from a CNN piece on Bush's ipod: 'The playlist does reveal a rather narrow range of babyboomer tunes. Writing in the London Times, Caitlin Moran noted: "No black artists, no gay artists, no world music, only one woman, no genre less than 25 years old, and no Beatles."'

Morons. The playlist released to the media is 11 songs long. No world music among the 11 songs? I'm shocked! Mark McKinnon, the chief media strategist in the 2004 campaign, warned that 'no one should psychoanalyze the song selection. It's music to get over the next hill.' That didn't stop CNN or the London Times from doing just that. I've written before that my top 25 most played songs were almost entirely by black musicians. Yet, a random 'Party Shuffle' playlist reveals these 11 songs:

1. Let's not shit ourselves- Bright Eyes
2. New Year's Day- U2
3. Country Boy- Johnny Cash
4. Don't know when but a day is gonna come- Bright Eyes
5. My Wild Love- The Doors
6. Getting Better- The Beatles
7. Saturday- Sparklehorse
8. Mother- Blonde Redhead
9. Untitled- Interpol
10. Ex-Factor- Lauryn Hill
11. Digital- Joy Division

Only one black artist. Not sure if any gay artists. Only two women. And certainly no world music.

Liberals wonder why conservatives get so defensive of Bush. He's not a perfect president, I don't imagine anyone would be. Personally, it's stuff like this that makes me an ardent Bush defender. I feel like liberals lose their collective minds in order to criticize him. They'll grasp at straws like this just to get in an attack on him.

I can't believe how this story is starting to grow arms and legs. "only feel good music" ? And ? Music for him is recreation only I would think, and not something to discuss in a chin stroking fashion.
Mind you, liberals gone mad ? They are only commenting on something that I assume the Whitehouse spun out to the media.

"Gay artists?" Look, man, I'm as open-minded and tolerant as the next guy. But this whole thing about treating homosexuals like an ethnic group has gotta stop. It makes about as much sense as separating out people who prefer broccoli over asparagus.

I, for one, can't wait to see a story done on a U.S. Marine's iPod playlist.

I am not a Bush fan at all, but I liked reading about his iPod. None of it makes me think differently of him because I know he doesn't load it himself. It's just a curiosity, and I'm a nosy kitty.

I'm with Jeff, but more importantly --- where's.my.link?

Obviously, Karol, you hate white people.

Obviously.

Joy Division and Interpol are pretty gay.

Ditto Bright Eyes...

This intrigues me, I must check my party shuffle too! Maybe I'll find out something about myself.

Ok, found it out. I have kickass musical taste.

That means Karol has a music collection that is almost 40% gay. Way to go Karol!!!!

Posted by: Downtown Lad at April 13, 2005 12:01 AM

My random shuffle came up 20% gay (two R.E.M.)

Posted by: Downtown Lad at April 13, 2005 12:03 AM

Michael Stipe is only one-third of REM, and he's only half gay, so an REM song can only ever be 16% gay.

Posted by: Jeff Harrell at April 13, 2005 12:09 AM

No Jeff. One drop of gay blood and you're all gay. It's rule #438 in the gay handbook.

So R.E.M is all gay. A good thing!

You can even be gay through marriage. Take Liza Minelli or Judy Garland for example. They are both straight, but since they married gay people, that makes them 100% gay music. That is a fact that not even a member of the Christian Right can argue with! :)

Yeah, but at least you've got some beatles on there.
