Thought of the day

Certainty can be fleeting and just because you're sure of something today doesn't mean that you'll feel the same way tomorrow.

We're only a week into the freaking season. I hope you're not giving up on the Yanks or Mets already.

Seriously, if you post something as cryptic as this, I assume something is going on. If this is a rough time, then you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Ha! No, no, everything is fine. I just never fail to be amazed at how sure I can be of something one day and not the next.

I don't know where you wanted to go with this, exactly, but I wanna say this: Back during the Terri Schiavo thing, I thought I had it all figured out. I thought I knew exactly what my opinion was. I thought I had made up my mind.

Then my dog got sick, and I started to question everything. Suddenly stuff that made perfect sense to me seemed all confused.

Now I don't know what the hell I believe.

As a blogger you're committed to having a knee-jerk reaction to everything and then sticking to that initial reaction no matter what*. Certainty is your stock-in-trade. I'm not singling you out Karol, I'm just talking about the attitudes of political bloggers generally.

*Bloggers like Andrew Sullivan who do change some opinions over time are regarded as unprincipled twerps by all right-thinking people.

I'm pretty certain most of you are smoking way too much crack.

Ah, yes. Things are impermanent indeed.

ken:

I'm smoking just the right amount of crack.

Eric, just because I'm uncertain about some things doesn't mean my values change from day to day. And when I do change my mind on a political position, I don't pretend it's for one reason when it's obviously for quite another.

Also, she doesn't (gay) make every (gay) post about (gay) a single issue (gay).

"just because you're sure of something today doesn't mean that you'll feel the same way tomorrow."

Is this a spin on your superstition that if you wish for something in the future, it will never come true?

Posted by: Jake at April 12, 2005 10:11 PM

Absolutely, Jake, that's exactly what I was thinking.
