A venue for the crazies

What's the big concern in the Newsweek story for the loony left? Is it that Newsweek's reputation has been shattered? Is it that nearly 20 people died rioting over the false story? Is it even that the story may be true and that Korans were indeed flushed? No, don't be crazy. The big concern is that this might somehow benefit Bush and the Republicans. Because, you see, there is no bigger issue not even ones of life and death, that are bigger than harming the reputation of the American Right.

Norman Mailer is convinced that not only was this story planted by conservatives to discredit Newsweek, but that the riots may have been orchestrated as well, all to assist the Right. He writes 'I'm beginning to see why one would want to write a blog. At present, I have a few thoughts I can certainly not prove...' How wonderful that Arianna Huffington has introduced blogging to a bunch of conspiracy-mongering lunatics with already too big an influence.

Okay. Let's run with it. Why this particular story and not, say, the supposedly live grenade thrown at President Bush while in Europe?

I mean, an explosive device is thrown at our Head of State. Any red-blooded American would be outraged and if it had gone off, we'd be mighty pissed.

Well we have Lampley, the best boxing commentator in the business. We have Mailer, the writer of the best boxing book of recent times (I am refering to his account of the Rumble in the Jungle when Ali defeated Foreman). What next ? Political thoughts from Bert Sugar ? Tommy Hearns on the filibuster ? If they ever cover the sweet science, let me know.

Why this particular story and not, say, a for-profit war sold to the American people with lies that has sucked $200 billion out of OUR pockets and into the pocket's of Dubya's campaign contributors?

Shawn, truth be told, I'm having a hard time believing the live-grenade story. It was in the news, then it wasn't, then it was back, and all the stories seem to be of the sort that even a Newsweek reporter would look at and go, "Gee, that seems a little flimsy to me."

But let's put that aside for a second. Let's assume, just for sake of argument, that the story is true. Do we really want to make a big deal out of it? I mean, it seems to me that the last thing we want is to give crazy people ideas. There are those out there, both at home and abroad, who are just insane enough to try something like that; I, for one, don't want to inspire them.

On another note: Don, thanks very much for the tip. I just realized that my big, fat, blood-money check hasn't shown up in the mail yet. I, like millions of other Americans, contributed both financially and with our time to the re-election of the President last year. I want my evil empire Iraq oil profiteering money!

Pardon me while I climb in my owl-fueled Hummer and drive up to 1600 Penn to open the door with my special platinum White House key to see if I can get to the bottom of this.

Oh man. Seems I run into this moonbat everywhere. Warning to anyone who is tempted to debate with this fella - good luck pushing through the shield he puts up in front of reality.

I wonder how many lefties are disappointed the grenade didn't go off.
