The pain of love (or, dog-blogging on a Tuesday)

I'm allergic to animals. This often upsets pet-owners, as if I have some kind of control. I had a cat most of my life and then developed allergies at about age 19. It thoroughly sucks. I often want to touch my friends' pets and must always resist lest I want to spend the next few days looking like I'd just smoked a bag of skunk weed and then rubbed my eyes vigorously for 15 minutes. No good. I've considered getting the program of shots to cure me but always thought of it as just too big a hassle. Well, I've fallen in love and there's nothing that's too big a hassle when love is involved.

Meet Puba:

Have you ever seen anything so adorable in all your life? He has the bluest eyes and the softest hair and ears ever. I literally can't stop touching and playing with him, damn the pain. And there is pain. I took allergy medicine before seeing him yesterday but that only controlled the runny nose and eyes and helped with the itchy throat. I still was itchy and my face had red marks on it and still I could not keep away from Puba.

Here's Puba with his proud papa, Mr. White:

So, I think I'm going to do it, get the shots I need to be able to play with Puba whenever I want. Yes, the things we do for love.

it's all fine and good until the dog eats you.

irresistable, yet another reason to visit Frank! I feel your pain having developed my own pet allergies recently - but Puba seems worth it K.

He's a cutie!

I am steadfast in my belief that it was really 'Bama and Riley that made you start to reconsider while Puba sealed the deal.

He's cute as hell, poor Frank, he's got competition now ;)

I HOPE A CREEP DOESN'T TRICK THE DOG INTO MODELING PHONY WIGS!!!

My sister was severely allergic to several things as a child. She got the routine of shots, and now barely takes medicine.

Except she's over in Australia now, and is having to go through the whole allergy routine again. Silly plants that only exist in one country.

Do it. You will never regret it, ever.

Wait a minute. Just read the post accompanying the beast pictures. You are getting *shots* so that you will be able to play with a dog? Unecessary medical treatment for a few hours with someone else's pet? Yeah. poor you are.

Posted by: Not Dawn Summers at May 24, 2005 01:43 PM

It's not someone's dog, it's Frank White's dog. AND have you seen that dog? AND I don't want to always be suffering when over a friend's place that has pets. Not all of us can throw fits like you until the pet is removed from our sight.

Oh, and my mom has a cat. I'd like to be able to visit her without dying.

Posted by: Karol at May 24, 2005 02:02 PM

Pets are SO worth it.

The series of allergy shots are not that bad.
In the meantime, I suggest Claratin, Allegra, or Flownase.
Medicated eyedrops can help prevent or subdue redness in your eyes and irritation of your eyelids.
If you can, get a perscription for Patanol (0.01% Olopatadine hydrochloride). Alternatively OTC eyedrops that contain Naphazoline Hydrochloride to be somewhat effective.

what kind of dog is it.

It looks like a mix of hound and laborour, though i do not know anything about dogs.

So...are you close with this Mr White? It's not your dog. Do you want the dog? Is it up for adoption? Am I missing something here?
I myself, am a big pet lover, but with the severitry of your allergy, I would want to thoughroughly research what the medicine does to you. Most pet allergies, really mean you are just allergic to pet dander.

There is a Petco on 86th & lex, lets get Puba some toys!

Posted by: Lisa at May 24, 2005 05:32 PM

BUT BUT BUT

You CAN'T love something that cute. You're a Republican!!!!!!!!

Nah seriously. A dog like that is worth the allergy.

Youve made me miss my dog even more now GGGRRRRR!!!!!

The shots are well worth it. By reducing your sensitivity to allergens, you increase the overall quality of life.

You should also be tested for tree, flower, grass, mold and dust allergies. Very easy to overlook them, and the shots are all combined into one. At least I think it's one shot...it's been a while since I've paid attention to that.

Not for lack of interest have I responded so late. But because today was my mammas b-day AND work was crazy AND Puba demands much attention. I didn't even get a chance to listen to Karols talk show...
Now to clarify...Puba is a 9 week old beautiful Weimeraner. He likes to eat, lick and sleep alot. And Yes Lisa, he does like toys (the fuzzy, fleecy, furry, soft kind). GET THE SHOTS K!

Posted by: WHITE at May 24, 2005 10:57 PM

He is so adorable! Oh yeah, the dog too.

Congratulations on falling in puppy love!

My adorable mutt -- a beagle/chow/lab mix found at a shelter and spoiled well beyond reason -- sends her best as well.

I usually dont comment anymore, but in the case of Puba(who is now an official family member)i feel compeled. That is one damn cute, loveable dog, and he hasnt even become playful yet(so there is immeasurable cuteness on the way). Karol, you will need dem shots or you will have to sit on the side while all the rest of us kids play. Furthermore, i expect complete support for Karol on the matter.

white,

thanks for the infor.

I have been looking at dog breeds recently, and just read a little but about the breed.

A beautiful dog and not well suited for my lifestyle. Good luck with the pup.
