Quote of the Day (or, 'Anti-Capitalists are even dumber than they look')

Travel to Scotland, however, may be tricky. Ironically, many anti-capitalists may be able to get there thanks only to the generosity of Sir Richard Branson. The Virgin tycoon has agreed to provide free trains and a special Virgin flight to Edinburgh in the week leading up to the march.

The only cures for poverty in Africa are cures that the demonstrators would riot against.

1. Get the UN, IMF and the World Bank out of Africa. All those agencies freeze in place corrupt, authoritarian socialist governments. Only free-market reforms will bring prosperity to the African people.

2. Get Europe to drop their protectionism on goods from African countries.

3) Get the US to drop their protectionism :P CAP is unfairly blamed - it amounts to a few billion a year (0.6pc of EU GDP). US farm subsidies will be $98bil over the next five years, iirc
PLUS: would you rather we flew all our food around the globe burning up more fuel and sending oil prices ever higher?? Seems to me that the CAP is at least a pseudo-quasi-good-environmental policy. Sort of.

4) Let Britain re-colonise. I'd be up for a year of national service in Namibia. We were forced to give up the empire after WWII to finance debts to the USA - it was this movement out of Africa that caused all the problems. So the USA is to blame.

5) Africa doesn't need FREE-MARKET reforms. It just needs three things:
Stable strong non-corrupt government (Rule of law, doesnt matter if its Communist or Democratic, Left-wing or right-wing)
Inalienable property rights
Low Taxes

Who cares about Africa or Africans(clearly not anyone in Europe) ? It is the only 3rd world continent( sanx Britain, you are the bestest conquerers ever). Antarctica has advanced further than Africa. The only influence in Africa is that of evil men. You'd figure they would be beggin for American intervention and as far as I'm concerned, if America gets involved then we should get paid handsomely. No more excuses, if the rest of the world can take what they want and call it colonialism and say that it's good for them(who ever that them would be)for the last 1500 years, then we could go in, set up shop, smack down the dictators and the genocidal maniacs, dig up some diamonds and oil, and plant some food, cash in(while putting more money in the hands of the people than they have ever heard of) and tell all the useless Europeans " dont let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya".

Joe and Shawn. You probably aren't aware but The Sudan has the world's largest single-owner farm and enough spare farming capacity to FEED the WHOLE of Africa. No need for GM.

"Sudan has at least 81 million hectares (200 million acres), which could easily be cultivated, which is more than half the currently cultivated acreage-base of the United States. This acreage could potentially produce crops sufficient to feed almost all of Africa. Sudan has another 88 million hectares (218 million acres) suitable for forestry, and 23 million hectares (57 million acres) for pasture."
