I hit you in the head with my meme, Dawn.
10 years ago: Eighteen years old and home for the summer from college. In about a month I would take my second trip to Scotland, both to see if I could live there for awhile and also to find out if my connection with a German boy I had met there the previous summer, and with whom I had logged several hundred hours of phone conversation since, had any weight. The answers were 'yes' to the first question and a 'yes but not in that way' to the second.
5 years ago: I was living in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, or 'fake Brooklyn' as my brother and friends would call it when they visited. I was dating someone fabulous, just not fabulous for me, and that summer was the end of our relationship. He is still one of my favorite people in the world. I was listening to a lot of Nina Simone, Bill Withers and Dre's 'Chronic 2001' and starting to think that maybe I should get more involved in politics. The election that November, and the fact that I had no one to talk to about it that I even remotely agreed with, would make that happen.
1 year ago: I was in Georgia working on the US Senate race of the man of men, Herman Cain. The primary was coming up and we were in for some disappointment but we didn't know that on July 10th and everything felt very hopeful. Herman was mobbed by crowds everywhere he went and we would get breathless phone calls from people that met him wanting to get involved in his campaign. I met some good people on the campaign like Matt, Mark and Alex, among other blogless people. It was a great experience. I recommend moving away to work for someone you really admire at least once in your life.
Yesterday: This is a good one because I had such an insane night last night (this was written on Sunday). Candace (of the late Candied Ginger), the now solo blogger Ginger and Petitedov were all in town, from DC, Jersey and Boston respectively, and we met Jessica, Peter, Dawn, Ari, Esther and a bunch of other non-blogging folks at my parent's house in Brooklyn. We ate pizza, boozed it up, then headed to the beach where we stayed till about 3am. Came back to the house where some people played poker and some people played ping-pong. Fun all around. Snippets of the night here, here and uhhhhhhh here.
Today: I'm working, working, working. I may get my hair blown out.
Tomorrow: I'm Hoisting the Black Flag with Ace at 4pm EST on Rightalk.com.
5 snacks I enjoy: Swedish fish, cheese, seltzer water, Special K cereal with strawberries and almost any kind of fruit.
5 bands that I know the lyrics of MOST of their songs: Unfortunately, I know the lyrics to almost every song I've ever heard. I don't know why my brain chooses to fully remember lyrics to songs I hate instead of, say, anything mathematical or scientific, but thems the breaks.
5 things I would do with $100,000,000: Despite the fact that I love the dough and I'm a capitalist pig, I'm not very materialistic. I've moved a lot in my life and 'stuff' matters a lot less to me than experiences (I'd rather have a fancy dinner than a fancy handbag). I also hate daydreaming about having an insane amount of money because it makes people less satisfied with what they have which, if you're reading this from your air-conditioned office or apartment in the western world, is a lot. But, if I had a spare grand, I'd go to Spain for a few days to see my brother because I am dying from how much I miss him.
5 locations I’d like to run away to: Santiago de Compostela, Spain. See above.
5 bad habits I have: Laziness is my key bad habit. I would be even more unstoppable if I would just get off my ass sometimes.
5 things I like doing: Playing poker, blogging, traveling, reading and like totally hanging out with my friends.
5 things I would never wear: I would wear anything. I'm very open-minded that way.
5 TV shows I like: Six Feet Under, Entourage, South Park, Desperate Housewives, Sopranos.
5 movies I like: Most by Todd Solondz (with the exception of 'Palindromes'), Guy Ritchie (with the exception of that awful Madonna vehicle), Vincent Gallo and Darren Aronofsky.
5 famous people I’d like to meet: Vincent Gallo and Jarvis Cocker of Pulp. Oh, and 50 Cent.
5 biggest joys at the moment: The rare occasions when I get to sleep, being outside in the summertime sunshine, hanging out with my brother's friends, blogging, and whatever little time I get to spend with Peter.
5 favorite toys: My Vaio, ipod and camera. I don't really have any other toys.
5 people to tag: I'm tagging two people, Jessica because I know she'll have great answers and Rachel May who deleted her blog and clearly needs inspiration to start up again. Otherwise, I invite my blogless commenters to answer the first four questions (the rest are just silly) in my comment section.

are you trying to balance out the fact that I tagged eight people?
Posted by: Not Dawn Summers at July 11, 2005 12:00 PMwhat about the talking r2d2?
Posted by: Not Dawn Summers at July 11, 2005 12:00 PMSince I'm blogless between 7:30AM and 7:30PM (and pretty bored at work right now)....
10 Years Ago: I was eleven years old and starting sixth grade. I can't remember what was going on that far back in my life.
5 Years Ago: I was 16 years old and starting 11th grade. I spent two weeks at SUNY Purchase for a Jazz camp and later came down with pneumonia for three months from their extremely clean dorm rooms. I started my old webzine (my first foray into the online world) on ska, punk, and emo music that summer and wound up interviewing a bunch of bands and getting stacks of free CDs to review.
One Year Ago: My 20th birthday. I took Accounting and Statistics over the summer and worked for a second year in my horrible retail job. I went to a bunch of great concerts and convinced my current co-blogger to start writing full-time on TvRWC. Our days of combined laziness continue.
Yesterday: Watched the Mets win! Uploaded one of my trumpets to sell on Ebay, took some pictures, and finally cracked open the LSAT study book.
Today: Woooorking. It's almost lunchtime.
Tomorrow: Working again. One day closer to the weekend. I'm going to see Weezer (=w=!) on Wednesday and while that's not technically "tomorrow" its worthy of mentioning.
Back to not doing any work at work.

10 Years Ago: Summer of 1995. I was 20 and in between sophomore and senior years of college and was making some money working on benefits issues for GE Capital. I played a lot of sega that summer and watched a lot of Marlins baseball. I was kicking around whether to do my senior thesis on John C. Calhoun's tenure as Sec. of War or State. I chose War. The girl I was seeing sent me a teddy bear, a bunch of Reesy cups and an SI with Mike Williams on the cover.
5 Years Ago: 25 and in NY. Working on a state senate race that was not clicking and leaving a think tank to work in real estate. First signs of strain in the relationship. I was drinking way too much for my own good and still did not realize it.
One Year Ago: Packing my bags in Reno and looking to heading out to Illinois. The big projects that summer were papers on former Confederates in Reconstruction and how Edmund Ruffin, despite his scientic background, was in fact a Southern conservative hoping to use science against progress. I spent a lot of nights watching the Giants who had perhaps the worst bullpen I had ever seen (with the exception of Scott Eyre).
Yesterday: Came in from Reagan National in time to drop the ex girl friend's sister off at O'Hare. Mass with the ex, coffee with the ex, other stuff with the ex until her roomie showed up, sent a number of emails last night with potential new boss about salary and start date. Started reading a book on Sonny Liston. It stinks.
Today: Still negotiating with potential new boss. Quiet day in the office with some looks at the catlog but not much going on here. Watching the home run derby tonight.
Tomorrow: Hopefully know if I have the job or not. Watch the All Star Game and have my blue Fanstic Four t shirt ready so I can see the movie on Wednesday. With all the white now in my hair, I may look a bit like Reed Richards.
i started this site a while ago, but was too bored to keep it going.. I guess i will now.
Posted by: rachel at July 11, 2005 12:39 PMFinalllllllly off Xanga! Congrats.
Posted by: Karol at July 11, 2005 12:42 PMI enjoyed readin all this stuff. I however will not delve into random times in my life(for one, who the hell wants to know? and two there is just too much to put in a few paragraphs...if someone is truly interested, i'll try my best to have some good stories). And the only person i wanna meet is a pirate on the verge of death, clutching a chest of gold( although "Ari" clutching the 22 year old chest aint bad).
Posted by: Pheeleepok at July 11, 2005 01:47 PMSee P - that right there? Chest of gold. Believe me ;)
Posted by: Ari at July 11, 2005 01:49 PMKarol, you rock! Your site is so much fun.
10 Years Ago: I was working as a security guard at a basketball camp. Basically that means I play basketball all day and night and if one camper steals from another I play Barney Fife. It was one of the greatest jobs ever invented (second only to Lifeguarding), I got in great shape, and had my last leisurely summer before becoming a 1L at Notre Dame.
5 Years Ago: I was working 100+ hours a wekk (seriously) as an Investment Banker, hating life, but loving by summer share. Little did I know, in only 3 weeks I would be shipped off to San Francisco and change the course of my life . . . for the better.
1 Year Ago: Doing my current job (Corporate bond research), OBSESSING over the Presidential election, and looking for a new apartment. Thankfully all three worked out nicely.
Yesterday: Bar-b-que on Long Island; watched Lawrence of Arabia. I love lazy Sundays.
Today: Working lazily (seriously); VERY slow summer in the bond market . . .
Tomorrow: No plans (I think)
5 snacks I enjoy: Chocolate covered peanuts, chocolate covered pretzels, honey roasted peanuts, ice cream cookie sandwiches, nachos with cheese and hot salsa
5 bands I know the lyrics of most of their songs: Journey, NWA, Cold Play
5 things I would do with $100,000,000: endow a scholar ship to attend Notre Dame, endow a scholarship to attend my high school, by homes in San Francisco, NYC and Tuscany
5 locations I'd like to run awway to: San Francisco, Tuscany, Nice, Santiago, San Diego
5 bad habits I have: Only 5?
5 things I like doing: listening to music, talking politics, reading, drinking, dancing
5 things I would never wear: spandex, wife-beater tee-shirt, Michigan Wolverine paraphenalia, polo shirt with a "popped" collar, skin-tight clothing
5 TV shows I like: Entourage, Chris Matthews Show, Fox News. The Simpsons, really bad reality TV (ie MTV's Real World or similar)
5 movies I like: Team America -- World Police (funniest damn movie I have seen in years), Lost in Translation, Hoop Dreams, Empire Strikes Back, The Princess Bride
5 famous people I'd like to meet: B16, Henry Kissinger, George HW Bush, Robert Redford, William Goldman
5 biggest joys at the moment: good sleep, good wine on the roof deck, the finally fixed home theatre, spicey tuna at Bond Street, my nephews and niece
5 favorite toys: home theatre, iPod, computer, wine cellar
Posted by: Kevin Patrick at July 11, 2005 02:54 PMWho would have thought that Dawn and Von Bek would be the same age?
Posted by: Alceste at July 11, 2005 04:20 PMAnd by that you mean "who would have thought that Von Bek was as young as Dawn."
Posted by: Not Dawn Summers at July 11, 2005 04:36 PMQuiet you - or I'll tell them the real reason why the router wasn't "working".
Posted by: Alceste at July 11, 2005 04:40 PMWhich, by the way, is a hollow threat as it's not the kind of thing I can make sound funny (even if it did amuse me).
Posted by: Alceste at July 11, 2005 04:43 PMYeah, plus, if I'm not ashamed to admit an inability to count to six, I hardly think the fact that I didn't know you had to buy a separate adapter for a router to communicate with the second computer, would embarass me.
Posted by: Not Dawn Summers at July 11, 2005 04:47 PMIt's how old are you on the inside that counts which means I'm screwed. If they made a buddy roadtrip flick about Dawn and I, she would be played by Raven (formerly Raven Simone) and I would be played by some evil old man type. Christoper Lee if I'm lucky.
Posted by: Von Bek at July 11, 2005 05:06 PMIt wouldn't have to embarrass to amuse.
And Von Bek, I know the feeling. I too share a birth year with Dawn Summers, yet I feel like I am somehow exponentially older at times.
Posted by: Alceste at July 11, 2005 05:15 PMPS, chez moi...pictures!
