Those can't be our only choices
Patrick Ruffini is running a straw poll for possible Republican candidates for '08. I don't think anyone in it can win. Sorry, I'm not cynical, just realistic. But do go vote in it anyway. Patrick is sorting the results by referring blog and it will let me know what my readers think.

You're right, especially if Hillary gets the nomination, which I belive she will.

Posted by: Joe Grossberg at July 26, 2005 08:10 AMI don't even know who George Allen is...but I know who Rodham-Clinton is. Unfortunately, she represents my state.
Posted by: nan at July 26, 2005 02:35 PMI may have missed this -- who do you think can win?
Posted by: Mike at July 26, 2005 07:03 PMI don't know who he is but I know what he'll be. A governor for sure, someone who can raise a lot of money. He'll be pro-life.
George Allen, John McCain and Bill Frist are all senators so they're out. Giuliani is pro-choice (and for gay marriage, something neither party's candidate will be in '08). The only one left from the list is Romney who just came out today as pro-life. It's possible but I doubt it. A governor from a northeast state? I don't think it'll play to the rest of the country.
I think it could be someone like Gov. Sanford from S.Carolina or Gov. Haley Barbour from Mississippi. Gov.Owens from Colorado would be great too, though rumors of his marital problems may be hard to overcome, even against Hillary.
