Bush is such a homophobe
Obviously he picked a fellow homophobe for the Supreme Court.

i thought roberts was gay?
Posted by: Not Dawn Summers at August 4, 2005 06:18 PMFormer Catholic diosese leader of NY, Cardinal O'Conner, was a "homophobe" too. He believed homosexuality was a sin and was slammed by many liberal and gay groups because of his opinions. But he was also a man of compassion, who visited AIDS patients in the hospital, many who were gay, and prayed with them and comforted them and worked in bringing peace to their heart.
Someone very close to me was at one time a drug addict. I was disgusted with the situation the person got into and it can be a very difficult situation to deal with. Though I disagreed with his/her chosen path, it did not prevent me from loving the person.
Whether you agree with what someone does with their life, that doesn't mean you will be violent or hateful towards a person. Sometimes, I feel their is so much hatred on the side of those who want to be accepted. But you and I don't need to agree for me to accept you as another human being.
Posted by: Daniel Peterson at August 4, 2005 08:36 PMHate the sin, but love the sinner. Some people actually believe that.
Posted by: ccs178 (Chris) at August 4, 2005 11:35 PMYeah - I think Catholicism is a sin too. But just because I hate Catholicism doesn't mean I hate Catholics.
Posted by: Downtown Lad at August 5, 2005 12:21 AMChris, what's wrong with hating the sin but loving the sinner? I mean, we all know alcoholics or pathological liars that we love, but that doesn't make their actions correct.
Jay C., alcoholic and pathological liar
Posted by: Jay at August 5, 2005 08:57 AMUgh, I hate how the LA Times writes it up: he did pro-bono work for 'gay rights activists.'
"Gay rights... anathema to most conservatives..."
Howzabout using some less-vague terms? He reviewed filings for a friend, and helped said 'activists' prep in a practice session for a case regarding housing and jobs discrimination.
He wasn't leading a parade for same-sex marriage.
That said, it still makes me uneasy that he's not a Scalia clone. There's no reason why we can't have more of him.
Posted by: Jay at August 5, 2005 09:11 AMI hear you Jay. I'm afraid Roberts is starting to come out of the closet to reveal himself as a liberal ala Souter. I'm already ready for the gushing stories in the Washington Post or the NY Times about how much Roberts has grown in office.
Posted by: Von Bek at August 5, 2005 09:25 AMJay, I checked and double check my reply and, for the life of me, I can't see where I said anything was wrong with it.
Posted by: ccs178 (Chris) at August 5, 2005 09:52 AMSorry, I suppose I read you wrong. "Some people actually believe that" I read to be snarky. My bad if you're one of those some (most) people.
