No doubt 'bout it---fishin', clearin' brush, and following Dick Cheney's orders can really take a toll on a guy.
Posted by: Don Myers at August 23, 2005 07:16 PMPretty sure he could still kick your scrawny little ass, there, Don.
Posted by: Jeff Harrell at August 23, 2005 07:17 PMIf you compare a photo of Abe Lincoln shortly after his election with one taken shortly before his assassination you'll notice an even more dramatic change in appearance.
Posted by: Mark at August 23, 2005 08:55 PMI have booked two facials for George and I at Equinox Spa.
We can discuss foreign policy while the steam opens up our pores.
Posted by: Lisa at August 23, 2005 09:15 PMincidentally, there's a section to that effect of the "the american presidency" exhibit at the smithsonian that you're coming down here to go to with me.
Posted by: candy girl at August 23, 2005 11:28 PMDon:
The Democrat Party becoming a political and propaganda arm of Al Qaida has turned the President's hair grey. It has turned my hair grey too.
That job will do it to you. Bill Clinton aged dramatically during his 8 years in office ... and he hardly did anything.
Where's Von Bek when you need him? I bet he can fill us in on how the presidency ruined Franklin Pierce's boyish good looks.

Posted by: Toby at August 24, 2005 07:39 AMWell, Pierce saw his only surviving son be crushed to death in front of him in a horrible train accident. His religious wife considered this a sacrifice that God demanded for her husband's political triumph, basically severing their connections. Add the death of his point man in the Congress as well as his VP and no wonder why Pierce drifted during turbulent times. And no wonder why he hit the bottle hard after his presidency. I know of no president quite as tragic as New Hampshire's favorite son.
The presidency ravages the men who sit in the Oval Office. Lincoln has been noted. I think the office destroyed Polk who took his responsibilities heavilly (and died only mere months after he left office) and Coolidge who took his lightly. Harding and Wilson paid high prices in office as well making the swing around the circle. And, while I hate agreeing with Roth's loathsome novel, I think the office took years off FDR's life.
While these sacrifices are nothing compared to what our armed forces make, I often think that few normal sane men would want to be president.
Posted by: Von Bek at August 24, 2005 09:27 AMNeed I point out that President Bush is at the age when hair begins to grey? Hells bells, I know of people in their 30s who are going grey. As for his character lines ... The photo, no doubt, was touched up a bit to minimize such things. I think he looks marvelous!
Posted by: kitty at August 24, 2005 09:30 AMHe still has a resting heart rate of like, two beats per minute. The grille is dented, but the engine's purring.
Posted by: Jay at August 24, 2005 10:00 AMJay - Nice.
Posted by: candy girl at August 24, 2005 10:22 AMAwww....where's the one with the monkey? It's just not a GWB photo gallery without a monkey or two.
Posted by: Aaron at August 24, 2005 12:43 PMMany actors also look older without their makeup and hair coloring.
Posted by: Derek at August 24, 2005 03:49 PMIt's scary to think how old John Kerry would be looking in 2008 if he had won. He already looks old.
