C'mon now

Headline: Woman Offended by Doc's Obesity Advice

First of all, why is this a Yahoo top headline? And, second of all, if PCness reaches our medical offices, we're all in big, big trouble. My doctor has told me I need to lose weight to have a healthier back. That's life. That's health. Deal.

When my veternarian called my cat fat I was sooo offended I almost cried. My cat is a vain creature and the vet said it in front of him. Now he's depressed. Doctors are sooo mean. Meanies!

To me it is something like the conversation you have with your boss when he tells you all those "areas of improvement." It hurts a lot (particularly if you know that the boss is @#$#), but in many case she means good for you. Unfortunately, with bosses, we have no one to complain to.

It's a Yahoo top headline not because the woman was upset, but because her complaint actually brought action against the doctor by the attorney general. THAT is news. Now every doctor has to be wary of telling a patient bad news? If it's cancer, should the doctor have his lawyer present? Or perhaps every doctor's office should have a human-relations specialist on staff to deliver bad news.
