Continuing on a theme
McCain endorses teaching Intelligent Design in schools. RINOs everywhere suddenly confused: 'But, but we thought he was a maverick.' Yeah, a maverick with one eye on the poll numbers of primary voting Republicans.

Oh my gosh, maybe he is a Republican.

Posted by: rocky at August 24, 2005 09:18 PMWell if they can overlook Clinton's gay marriage ban, I'm sure they can agree to disagree with a guy they'll never have to vote for.
Posted by: Joe Grossberg at August 24, 2005 10:19 PMIt is sad that so many Republicans are endorsing pseudoscience in search of votes. It would be a nice change for politicians to show some leadership and advocate that only science be taught in science classes.
Posted by: Dan at August 24, 2005 11:43 PMI don't know how many RINO's you'll find in favor of John McCain. Democrats, maybe, but I think RINOs know which side of the bed McCain butters his bagel on. Uh, or something.
Posted by: Ken at August 25, 2005 10:03 AMThis man confuses the hell out of me. I always thought he was a conservative who craved attention, but every now and then I'll meet someone who's a more outspoken conservative than me, and they'll complain about McCain being the devil incarnate.
Aside from being one of the fool appeasers who's ok with filibustering judicial nominees, what did this guy do to be considered not-so-conservative?
Posted by: Jay at August 25, 2005 10:35 AMI think there may be a bit more to it than that. While I'm not a fan, I don't think McCain is a RINO by any stretch despite campaign reform and judges and health care and tax cuts. He's done some very loyal work for the President on Iraq, even while saying there need to be more troops and things are not as rosy as the Preisdent makes them out (and it seems the American people agree). His position on immigration is just as bad as Bush's. He is, I think, better on spending than the president. He is solid on life. While I think McCain is no conservative, he is certianly not a RINO.
