Taking bets

Some New Orleans evacutees at the Houston Astrodome are claiming that the military exploded the levees to keep certain posh parts of New Orleans from being destroyed. An alternate theory is that a barge hit the levee causing the flooding.

How long before these conspiracy theories make it to Daily Kos's front page and then how long after that before the NY Times picks it up?

Guess what.

I'm no engineer, but wouldn't exploding the levees put those areas at greater risk?

They're all wrong. The residents of New Orleans themselves broke the levy because they were, you know, underpriveileged and looking for Texas to work out well for them..

Actually, the residents blew up the levees because they wanted waterfront property.

Bush had Rove blow up the levee to distract media attention from Kos's secret plan to destroy the DLC. Bush has turned over implementation of Kos's plan to FEMA.

According to the WSJ, levee breaches occured during the storm as well as the big one after:

"On Aug. 29, as Hurricane Katrina brought chaos to this city, three massive waves of water poured largely unseen into the eastern section of town and neighboring St. Bernard Parish.

One surged west, off a churning Lake Borgne. Another came across from Lake Pontchartrain in the north. That sent a steel barge ramming through the Industrial Canal, a major shipping artery that cuts north to south through the city, possibly scything a breach that became 500 feet long, letting waters pour into nearby neighborhoods. "
