That's twice in one week that my alma maters have made me shake my head in shame
Northeastern University excludes white women from "Women of Color Dialogue"

Do you hold your head in shame when clubs ban gay people?
Posted by: Downtown Lad at October 4, 2005 12:28 AMAm I a member of those clubs?
Posted by: Karol at October 4, 2005 12:31 AMI haven't seen you blog against it. Lots of religious clubs on campuses exclude gay people.
As is their right I would add. People should be able to associate with whoever they want to.
Posted by: Downtown Lad at October 4, 2005 12:34 AMSo.....the point of your comment is.....?
Posted by: Karol at October 4, 2005 12:51 AMI don't see anything that your university did wrong. So you have students with varying opinions. Big deal. There are some minority students who want to have a discussion without oppressive white people there. I little paranoid looney, I'll admit, but there always people like that on campus. So what?
Posted by: Downtown Lad at October 4, 2005 09:26 AMI really should stop clicking through the links, but... Your alma mater's administration made the group of students/women studies-folk open the program up to all (female?) students regardless of race - how is that shameful? Or are you saying that is it shameful to have that group of students/women's studies program on campus in the first place?
Posted by: Alceste at October 4, 2005 09:54 AMMy thinking is this: could a group of white girls form a club and exclude 'women of color'? Of course not. So the reverse should not be acceptable either.
Posted by: Karol at October 4, 2005 10:45 AMWhy are people having trouble understanding this?
Very simple.
Discussion as part of organized event.
Discussion closed to all but a small group of people, the distinction based on race.
Members of other races getting upset. Rightly so.
Any questions?
Posted by: kat at October 4, 2005 10:51 AMOf course it wouldn't be acceptable. And I think your alma mater would agree as it refused to let the "Women of Color" group exclude white folk. I just don't see how you are ashamed of the university - given what I have read on the blog, I would think you would be proud that the administration refused to allow reverse discrimination on its campus.
Posted by: Alceste at October 4, 2005 10:55 AMThe university administration had to be forced into opening up the dialogue through complaints. I don't know that they would have taken the initiative and opened it up if two white students hadn't complained.
I'm also curious as to whether or not men were allowed in the dialogue. I don't believe that was mentioned.
Posted by: kat at October 4, 2005 11:52 AMThis is apartheid, pure and simple.
The left loves to segregate and isolate minorities so they cannot assimilate into our culture. And that isolation only brings desperation and despair.
It is racism at its worst.
