Facts about the Oklahoma suicide bomber

This is for those people, like me, who are coming late to the blogosphere breaking story, since most of the MSM seems to not want to go anywhere near it, about Joel Hinrichs, a man in Oklahoma who blew himself up near a football game happening at the university last Saturday.

*Joel Hinrichs III, 21, died on Saturday when a device attached to his body exploded as he sat on a bench outside George Lynn Cross Hall.

*He was probably a Muslim though I haven't seen this confirmed. He is said to have spent time at an Islamic Center near his apartment. His roommate is Pakistani.

*Norman feed store operator Dustin Ellison said Hinrichs attempted to purchase ammonium nitrate a few days before the explosion. Ammonium nitrate was a key ingredient in the 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City.

*He was seen at the same mosque as Zacarias Moussaoui.

*One of the materials in his bomb was TATP or triacetone triperoxide. 'There have been very few reports of TATP being used in the United States; however, there have been more documented cases overseas -- including Richard Reid, who was arrested after he used TATP in his shoe and tried to light it on a flight.'

A search on Google News for Joel Hinrichs' name produces just 4 pages, or 207 results, mostly from local Oklahoma media, as well as some from Hinrichs' home state of Colorado and a couple from neighboring states. But, a search on technorati finds 198 blog posts about him. And, for most of us, this isn't our job. The Oklahoma Daily, a student paper at the University Oklahoma, even warns against trusting those illegitimate blogs. The fact that the media is wholeheartedly ignoring this story is annoying but not at all surprising. But surely they can find a 'blame Bush' angle in this story, can't they? Troubled, bearded kid blows himself up. Why didn't George W. Bush stop him!? He probably knew it was going to happen but instead was sleeping or eating or wasting time in some other way. George Bush hates white people.

Michelle Malkin, Texas Rainmaker and Gateway Pundit are all over this story.

This situation poses quite a problem for Fox News. Since he only killed himself, they can't call him a "Homicide Bomber". But they're not allowed to use the term Suicide Bomber, so that at least explains their absence from this story.

As for the rest of the media, I can see how a suicide that couldn't even interrupt a football game could get overshadowed by the news that The President nominated his personal lawyer to a position that's arguably more important than the presidency itself, since she's likely to be deciding issues for the next 20 years.

That and all the other problems.

Still, that is some interesting stuff.

"George Bush hates white people."

That could explain why the current administration supports lowered borders.

Of course you can blame Bush for this!!!

Certainly, with the tenor of American worldwide aggression, this unfortunate "probably a muslim" youth certainly felt more at odds with himself and his faith, ashamed in living in a country that has declared a crooked backwards war on the wrong target and utterly frustrated.

George Bush only hates poor white people. Remember, the wealthy elite is his base. Everyone else can go screw, or better yet, drown.

Bush is not responsible for the Al Qaida hatred of the US-women are.

They want us all dead because of the freedom and equality we give women. To a man, the Al Qaida hate women and the left supports them because they feel the same way about women too.

Huh. Well, this story has certainly taken on a life of its own.

But there is a good point in all of this: if you believe everything you read in blogs (or even on the Internet as a whole), there are a couple of words in the dictionary that I can think of to describe you...

Although I agree that you can't believe everything you read on the internet, you certainly can't put any more faith in the "legitimate" news sources (rathergate comes to mind). Blogs are fueling this story, whether the msm likes it or not.

Jake:

I think you're onto something. Years and years of therapy and I figure myself out on a blog. Ha! Who knew?! I hate women too!

Toby:

Then you will want the information contained on this web site.

I have my own thoughts on this ... especially some of the "facts" and the lack of media coverage. Technorati tags don't make a story any more or less true. In fact, most of the blog "coverage" of this is frothing-at-the-mouth rumor-mongoring linking back to other blogs which link back to other blogs. The only seemingly reliable sources are the local media outfits. Yes. Z.M. was IN Oklahoma. I'm sure JFK was at some point. That doesn't prove a connection. That doesn't disprove one either, but still. For more, see my blog. Or don't.

Ken

Reliable source and media outlet is an oxymoron.

Posted by: Jake at October 6, 2005 06:17 PM

Okay, YOU get an Instalink for coming to the story two days late and offering almost nothing new? You're DEFINITELY in the pocket of the Republicans ... or at least the puppy blenders.

Posted by: Ken at October 6, 2005 07:04 PM

Don't be hatin', Ken. I actually didn't know about my instalanche until your comment.

Posted by: Karol at October 6, 2005 07:12 PM

Oh, I'm a hatin, alright. Just hatin' away. It's what I do best.

"American worldwide aggression"

That's as maybe. There's another kind of worldwide aggression, though - and it seems to have cornered the market in the whole "blowing yourself and other people up" thing.

Posted by: Knemon at October 6, 2005 10:07 PM

(as opposed to just blowing up other people. We've still got strong market share on that one).
