How can you possibly now what you and Ace will be talking about *later* today? And where is the call in phone number, so that your readers may join in?

Our show was pre-recorded this week, though we do usually know what we'll talk about in the last segments.

When is the replay ? I won't be able to listen. :(

So, having spoken to Boortz and Forbes over the past couple of weeks - do you prefer the consumption tax or the flat tax ?

Posted by: Alceste at October 11, 2005 10:56 AM

Well, I think the flat tax is easier to understand but the fair tax is more realistic.

The show plays at 4pm and then replays every hour for the next 24 hours and then again all weekend long.

The fair tax certainly has better marketing - does either really have a shot though? The anti-income tax amendment the consumption tax folks want strikes me as a significant barrier - Anyways, I would personally like to see the flat tax get a shot; but since neither party really supports it, we're probably stuck with what we have...

Alceste is the flat tax the same as Reagan's "tithing" plan? If so, you crazy and really need to stop reading this site.

NDS: Not the same. A flat tax comes in many forms, but the one common feature is a single rate applied to income without the loopholes/deductions we have in our current system. That doesn't, however, necessarily mean that the effective rate of taxation is the same for all people. I'd prefer a system with a very large deductible (set to a living wage or something of the sort -- not the rather bogus poverty line) that would be completely unacceptable to most flat tax advocates. I'd also want to be sure to include all income -- not just wages -- to make sure that folks can't evade taxes by manipulating the source of the income.

Dang, no call-ins... what am I gonna do from 4-5; I mean, sure, I could do what I actually get paid to do, but that's boring.
