Raise your hand high
I have a long post coming about how Bush malaise among conservatives and Republicans will turn quickly back into Bush love because of the glee and insanity from the crazy left over our -gasp- publicly debating issues within the party and movement.
But, for now, I just want to know, is there anyone reading this that voted for Bush, and is upset with his spending, judicial nominee etc., that would vote for Kerry if given a do-over?

Voted for Bush. Upset with spending (although blame Congress for it much more). Lukewarm on Miers. Could be dragged through broken glass and still not vote for Kerry.
Posted by: J.Kende at October 15, 2005 07:33 PMI was going to say something terribly pithy until I read J.Kende's comment. All I have left is:
What he said!
Posted by: Matt at October 15, 2005 07:44 PMHeck, I voted for Bush in '00 wishing I had another viable choice. In '04, I voted out of duty to the survival of our nation.
I'm pissed about several things he's done-not about Miers. I'm proud of his strong stand against terror and think that history will be kind to him because of it.
Posted by: Liberal Loather at October 15, 2005 08:43 PMWell I voted for Bush in 2000, but decided to vote Libertarian in 2004.
And sorry Karol - but it wasn't just because of gay marriage (he was against that in 2000 too). It was because Bush has turned out to be worse than any liberal Democrat would have been.
What exactly has Bush done for conservatives?
Posted by: Downtown Lad at October 15, 2005 09:09 PMVoted for Bush, upset with his spending, and would never vote for Kerry because Kerry supports unions, specificall, the teachers union.
Killing off unions, especially the teachers union, is of far more importance to me than any budget deficits.
Posted by: Dave at October 15, 2005 09:44 PMAh, but my dearest Karol tis malaise and "publicly debating issues within the party" which leads to candidates like Kerry being the only ones to make it out of national primaries...your question -- given that there are no do overs -- is given the unhappiness with Bush what which Republican do you vote for in '08...what will this person have to stand for to get your vote...and with any luck, if that answer is all over the place or nicely split in two places, it'll be '92 in '08. Oh yeah.
Posted by: Not Dawn Summers at October 15, 2005 10:35 PMKarol:
A lot of times people do not vote for the other party when they get upset with their own pary. Instead, they just do not turn out in large numbers.
If things continue the way things are going, a lot of the Republican base will stay home in 2006 and the Republicans will lose one or both houses of Congress.
Bush needs to get his act together. He could have Miers withdraw her nomination for a start.
Posted by: Dam at October 15, 2005 11:11 PMWould never have voted for Kerry, but I would work on Joe Leiberman's campaign today.
Regardless of the Republican nominee, I think I'll help Lieberman out in 08. Or, if some other hawkish Democrat comes out of the woodwork in the coming years.
Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Republicans are not immune, as clearly evidenced by the past year.
Posted by: Sean at October 16, 2005 01:13 AMWhat J.Kende and Sean said.
Fun anecdote: I went to the memorial for Steven Vincent, which was at Cooper Union. Several of Vincent's friends spoke hawkishly to a crowd of mostly downtown arterati, which was Vincent's home base until 9-11. One of them said that he had been an anti-Vietnam protestor back in the day. "I helped John Kerry with the Winter Soldier campaign. I knew John Kerry. And that's why I didn't vote for him in 2004."
Posted by: Yehudit at October 16, 2005 03:16 AMWould NOT have voted for Kerry:
Would have voted Libertarian
With Kerry's track record of leadership and reasoning skill? Be reasonable.
Posted by: Mark Poling at October 16, 2005 08:45 AMI actually voted for Kerry. I was so pissed off about Ashcroft & the religious right, not to mention the incompetent handling of security in post-liberation Iraq, that it was just a pure anti-Bush vote.
I am extremely pissed off about Miers, Brownie, the new FBI "obscenity" initiative, Jose Padilla, the failure to reform Social Security, etc.
But I could never vote for that douchebag John Kerry again.
Posted by: WC Varones at October 16, 2005 10:25 AMVoted for Bush but would have voted for Peroutka had he been on the ballot in my state. Would not have voted for Kerry. I will probably cheerfully vote for the pro-life Dem challenger to my big government, big defecit, America second, open borders W. style Republican Congressman in 2006 and would most likely vote for a Bush critic, be it Tom Tancredo or Roy Moore, in 2008.
Posted by: Von Bek at October 16, 2005 03:09 PMI could never vote for the Badnarik style isolationist Libertarians. And armed pragmatic libertarian sure. Wake me up when one has a shot in hell at winning the presidency.
Posted by: J.Kende at October 16, 2005 03:33 PMVote for Kerry. Absolutely NO WAY!
The Only reason this has become a topic today is the MSM got another headline to bash GWB. Alaska is still going to get that "bridge to nowhere"; Massachusetts gets plenty of cash for the "Big Dig", etc., etc.
I suggest the following slogan be adopted next time any spending bill comes up: "Not One Dime For My District".
His previous nominations to the Courts have been good. I'm expecting no less this time with the SCOTUS nomination.

I would have EVER voted for that traitor John Kerry. Perhaps the Constitution party one day. But it sounds like you, Karol, are having second thoughts about having voted for Bush in 04. Is that so?
Posted by: Zelda at October 16, 2005 07:48 PMI voted for Bush in 2000 and feel like a sucker now. Yes, I voted for Kerry in 2004 and don't regret it one bit. Bush is the traitor!
Posted by: Dennis at October 16, 2005 07:54 PMI'd like to add that I voted for Bush Sr. in 1992.. Bush 2.0 help me realize that I'm not a Republican. Thanks Bush!
Posted by: Dennis at October 16, 2005 07:56 PMFunny, he helped me realize I'm not a Democrat. Although to be honest, the Democrats did 90% of that job themselves.
Posted by: J.Kende at October 16, 2005 08:25 PMZelda,
Not a single doubt. Would vote for Bush again right now and twice on wednesday. The idea of John Kerry becoming president remains horrifying to me.
Posted by: Karol at October 17, 2005 01:28 AMIn direct answer to the question. Yes, I would have voted for Kerry given a do-over and I am someone reading your site (and who reads it regularly). However, I'm not really a conservative and I'm sure if you can look you can find reasons that the perspective of someone like me doesn't matter. I'm not sure what I am but it's probably closer to warmongering libertarian. I turned against Bush mostly over Schiavo. I'm still anti-anti-Bush, but also anti-pro-Bush. There's a list of bloggers somewhere of a more moderate or libertarian conservative bent who now say they wish they hadn't supported Bush. I'm sure you'll say these people don't matter and it isn't representative, but it does exist.
Posted by: Eric Deamer at October 17, 2005 01:27 PMThe list was on the blog The Commissar.
Posted by: Eric Deamer at October 17, 2005 01:32 PMI have no doubt Karol, if she actually was able to get through her invincible ignorance, would say to Eric and the bloggers on the Commissar:
Don't turn around. Wo-oh.
Commissar's in town. Wo-oh ! Ja, ja, ja.
Sorry. But I could not resist dedicating this piece to the band After the Fire and their late Austrian mentor Falco.
Posted by: Von Bek at October 17, 2005 02:46 PM"Invincible ignorance" refering to your hatred of the 80s culture.
Posted by: Von Bek at October 17, 2005 02:47 PMBush all the way! Even now. The nominations have been perfect and, although I don't agree with several other policies (border control being top on the list), GWB is better than any Dem that has had national exposure in the past 75 years. I saw a great bumper-sticker that expressed my views perfectly, "99% of Democrats give the rest a bad name." And oh, by the way, I'm from a blue state, blue as in sad as well as politically.
Posted by: KD at October 18, 2005 10:00 AMSure I'd vote for Kerry--as soon as hell freezes over.
Posted by: ll at October 18, 2005 08:44 PMDidn't vote at all, but was looking to punch Libertarian.
I think that, in a redo, I'd have to take a shiny quarter into the booth with me. Best out of 5.
