This woman teaches our children. Our children.

From London Times, via Drudge:

The anti-capitalist freegans — the name combines “free” and “vegan” — are so appalled by the waste of the consumer society that they try to live on the leftovers, scavenging for food in supermarket dustbins.

“It’s fun. It’s a thrill. It’s more fun and more satisfying than just going to the store and saying, ‘I wanted some bread and I got it’. It’s the surprise — and the prize,” said Janet Kalish, a New York high school teacher who describes herself as “60 per cent freegan”.

In America, only homeless drunks and rich anti-capitalist freegans eat out of garbage cans. No one else does, no matter how much money they have.

In anti-capitalist societies, everyone eats out of garbage cans. So if you want to live in an anti-capitalist society, you better start eating out of garbage cans today. You get better at it with practice.

There was a Wife Swap where one of the families was a Freegan family. Nasty. The wife quit her marketing job (she had a college degree) to live on $6000/year supporting a husband and a son and living out of dumpsters and growing her own food.

Nuckin' futs. Yes, it happens. Can you imagine feeding your son dumpster food and "restaurant leftovers" when you have a college degree???

Just saw Morgan Spurlock's "30 days" show where the two city slickers live with environmentalists. They were reclaiming stuff from dumpsters including an unused hairdryer of all things.
In London we have Wombles on Wimbledon Common, who make good use of the things most people have discarded.....look it up.....
I remember seeing a show called "The Scrimpers", which featured a man who paid about half his mortgage off by collecting aluminium cans for recycling.
