Matter of trust

John Zogby released a poll a few days ago noting that a majority of Americans believe Walmart is bad for America. Joel Mowbray notes today that Zogby 'cannot be considered an objective third-party when it comes to Wal-Mart.'

The poll was paid for by unions who are anti-Walmart. Additionally, 'Mr. Zogby has pocketed roughly $90,000 to serve as an expert witness for individuals suing Wal-Mart'. This was not mentioned anywhere in the press release of the poll results. Personally, I can't imagine why the Zogby polls are considered at all credible.

Even without his conflicts of interest, or perhaps because of them, his polls have been more than a little flawed. He predicted a Kerry win on election day of 2004. And, that's not as bad as his past predictions of a Delay loss in '02 (while working for his opponent) and a Lazio win against Hillary in '00 (while working for the New York State Republican Committee).

It is impossible for a majority of Americans to believe Wal-Mart is bad for America. This holiday season, a majority of Americans are currently clogging the Wal-Mart parking lot in my town, making traveling a pain in the ass.

They could all be protesting, but since I can't get a parking space, I can't check.

Anh, this does not bother me that much. A lot of Americans hate "big" things, be it big business or big government. Furthermore, I suspect these numbers are skewed since a lot of Americans-like the good people of Chicago and the bad people of Sodom on the Hudsonm-don't have them. Here in Kansas, we love them. I shopped there last night for my Christmas/Winky Wright boxing match party.

Personally, given Zogby's background, I never trusted him all that much anyway. His post 9/11 polls seemed insanely skewed.
